AUDRA MCDONALD: (SINGING ) Summer time and
the livin' is easy.
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high.
AUDRA MCDONALD: It's about redemption.
It's about true love.
It's about finding your self worth, finding your true self,
regardless of what society and circumstance tells you.
I think what finally helped unpack Bess for me was to
really understand that she is an addict.
And really sort of go from that.
Someone who has very little self worth, lots of love to
give, but no belief in herself.
And who is addicted.
And she's addicted to happy dust and to
Crown then to Porgy.
So once I understood that, I don't want to say it made the
journey easier, but it gave me sort of a road map.
So if you're in New York City you gotta come to 46th Street
to the Richard Rogers theater and see Porgy and Bess.
Please!
MALE SINGER: (SINGING ) You're my woman!
Yes!
I'm telling you.
AUDRA MCDONALD: (SINGING ) Let me go!
MALE SINGER: (SINGING ) I'm your man.
AUDRA MCDONALD: (SINGING ) What you want will be.
Let me go!
