Hi this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
has awarded scholarships to more than two dozen students across the state to study civil
engineering and civil engineering technology. Eighteen students have been selected to receive
the cabinet’s civil engineering scholarship for 2010. Through these scholarships, these
students will pursue bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering at the University of
Kentucky, University of Louisville, Western Kentucky University and Kentucky State University.
In addition to the scholarships, these young men and women will be provided the opportunity
to work for the Transportation Cabinet during the summer months. Upon completion of their
degree’s these individuals will have the opportunity to work full time for the Cabinet.
This year, another eight students will be receiving the cabinet’s new civil engineering
technology scholarship for the 2010-2011 school year. These awards of $2,500 per semester
will be used to study engineering technology at the Lexington or Prestonsburg campuses
of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. Through these two scholarship programs
students agree to work a year with the cabinet for every year they receive the award. More
details about the Transportation Cabinet’s scholarship programs are available online
at the cabinet’s website at transportation.ky.gov/scholarship. This has been your KYTC minute. Visit transportation.ky.gov
