Today, were working with the 2012 Toyota Highlander and were going to be test fitting the Pro-Series
Eclipse 4 Hitch-Mounted Bike Carrier, part number 63124. To mount the carrier to our
vehicle, well insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch. Well
line up the hitch pinhole, thread in our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it down using a wrench. With
our carrier mounted, we can go over a handful of clearance measurements. Weve got about
12 inches of ground clearance and about 7-1/2 inches of clearance from the closest part
of the vehicle to the closest part of the carrier. Overall, weve added about 35 inches
of length to the rear of the vehicle with the carrier mounted.
Now, we also want to check for rear vehicle access. Well remove the pin at the base of
the bike carrier and tilt it down. We want to make sure that even with the carrier mounted,
we can still open our hatch door and access our cargo area. Now, well tilt the bike rack
back up and prepare to load a bike. Well enter the hook and loop straps at the cradle closest
to
the vehicle.
