In this video I’ll show you how to light up your video world.. oops studio.. classical
style or the apple look.
Hey you’re watching Matt TV where we help you create the business and lifestyle you
deserve. Is lighting really that important when shooting indoors? (bad lighting example)
Seriously without good lighting your video will be dark and shady... lighting is key,
to achieve a clean quality video.
How do we setup the studio? Firstly you’re going to need a few lights,
to achieve the classic “3 point lighting setup”. Make sure the wattage is high enough
to light the subject-I suggest a bare minimum of 500 watts. Lastly we want to diffuse the
light a ‘Softbox’ is a great tool for this, when a light is shot through a diffusion
material, it will become soft, reducing shadows, making you more flattering and blemish free-just
like TV.
Handyman Setup – Under $100 So you’re a working man and have a few halogen
work lights sitting around? Perfect, we will need the following
• Three 500W Halogen Work Lights with stands • Diffusion Paper – Gel Diffusion Sheets
$6 • Clips – attach that paper
Remember Halogen Lights get very hot. To prevent your studio burning down, don’t use a bed
sheet or cheap paper for diffusion ‘Fire Hazard’ Spend $6 on quality diffusion paper.
To get setup clip the diffusion paper on to the light-you may need to use your handy man
instincts.
Budget Setup - $160 If you don’t want to sweat and spend alot
of time setting up, go for the Fr***** Softbox lighting set
• Includes 3 Softbox lights • 3600 Wattage Output
This Softbox set is already diffused and has more than enough wattage to light you or your
subject.
What is 3 point lighting? Three point lighting is one of the most popular
methods for studio lighting used mostly in film and photography. By using 3 different
lighting positions you can effectively light the subject and reduce shadow – going from
2D to 3D.
Classic 3 Point Lighting Style
The Key Light – The Main Light Used on the subject, usually stronger The Fill Light – Fills in shadow created
by the key light, so we don’t look dark. The Back Light – Used to separate the subject
from the background
Clean Background Look – Apple Style
I Love the apple style videos with the white background, to get the apple effect we will
need a white background, this can be a wall, backdrop or video paper “I use the wall”.
Instead of having all three lights on the subject, we will direct 2 lights to light
on the wall and have one light on the subject. ‘This is the new Matt Pad-Hand Crafted with
cutting edge technology’ anyway that’s how we do it.
So now I’d like hear from you: What lighting setup do you use or will use? Just leave that
comment below..
