This is PPE. PPE
stands for Personal Protective Equipment. We start here with our safety shoes.
These are steel toe work boots. The steel toe is there to prevent
injury to your toes
from falling material or parts
or if you were to drop something.
Or if someone else were to drop something, this would protect your toes from getting crushed.
Also we have steel toe shoes and
really its personal preference in most cases.
same thing applies they have a steel toe in them
and they prevent things from falling and crushing your toes.
One may be more comfortable than the other.
Again, its personal preference. some companies require you
to use steel toe work boots that are leather
and some don't care. There is another type of steel toe boot that we
don't have here and it has a metatarsal
that covers this portion of your foot. Some companies that work with
heavy material may require you to wear those.
They have them that come on to the boots.
They are actually sewed in. Some of them
actually were you can slip them over your boot for temporary wear.
Over here we have coveralls.
The purpose of coveralls is to protect your own clothing. Some companies may require you
to wear uniforms.
Whether it's coveralls, uniforms, or your
personal clothes it needs to be close-fitting
and short sleeved and that prevents you from being pulled into the machine
and causing injury. The next piece
is our safety glasses and the safety glasses need to be shatter resistant
there's a marking on the inside of the safety glasses which you look for
and it needs to be at least a Z87 approved.
These are Z94.5 approved. That's an OSHA standard
and it refers to the safety glass here being shatter resistant.
That's PPE.
