So Game of Thrones is finally back! The episode was a lot of set up for the rest of the season,
but there were plenty of awesome moments that I'm going to breakdown and make some predictions.
Personally I am enjoying the fact that the series has now overtaken the books, so each
episode is going to be more of a surprise. I'm sure this is also one of the main reasons
that Winds of Winter is taking so long to be released. As the show certainly makes more
money than the books!
So the show picks up directly after Jon Snows betrayal, as he lies dead in the Snow. Its
Ser Davos that finds him, and Dolorous Edd and some other members of the Night's Watch
loyal to Jon Snow carry him inside. So at this point they correctly surmise that its
Thorne who is responsible.
Melisandre comes looking for Ser Davos and is surprised to find Jon Snow lying dead.
Surprised of course because she had seen a vision of Jon Snow alive, fighting at Winterfell
in the fire.
Her faith in the lord light is visibly shaken, as this is second time her visions have not
come to pass. The first was the vision of Stannis victorious. She even convinced Stannis
to sacrifice his own daughter to the lord of light in order to gain enough dark power
to defeat the Bolton's and take Winterfell. However contrary to the vision we know Stannnis
army was not victorious, but was rather destroyed by the Bolton's, and Stannis was confirmed
dead in the episode, as Roose said to Ramsey Bolton “Thanks to you, the false king Stannis
Baratheon is dead”, and then asks who struck the killing blow? Ramsey says he doesn't know,
but we of course know it was Brienne of Tarth.
So Melisandre is now faced with another instance of her visions not coming to pass. The reveal
that the red priestess Melisandre is centuries old adds another layer of depth to an already
fascinating character.
She has always been the very definition of confidence, a confidence that comes from centuries
of experience, knowledge and power.
And up until recently has always had all the answers and managed to succeed.
Her unwavering faith and devotion has up until now always been rewarded, for centuries. So
what must she be thinking? What is the meaning? Is she perhaps even doubting her faith.
And what her role be moving forward?
Hopefully she will start by resurrecting Jon Snow. I think this is still likely to happen
during the course of season. But the big question is what type of sacrifice will be needed to
perform such a powerful act.
So in other words her the vision regarding Jon Snow may still come to pass. And we may
still see him in Winterfell. Of course there are already instances of people
being resurrected on the show. Remember Beric Dondarrion was resurrected several times through
the power of the lord of light, by the red priest Thoros of Myr,.
I think the show is using the reveal of Melisandre's true form to more than ever, establish her
extraordinary power.
She refers to themagic she used to conceal her true form; Glamor, and is referenced in
the Dance with Dragons on several occasions. She even told Jon Snow that she used this
magic when Mance Rayder was burnt alive. And said that it was actually another wildling
which she glamored to look like Mance. So there is a chance that Mance Rayder could
still be alive. So Ser Davos, Edd Tollett aka Dolorous Edd,
and others loyal to Jon Snow are essentially under seige from Allistair Thorne. Ser Davos
says that they are not the only ones who owe Jon Snow their lives, clearly referring to
Tormund and the rest of the wildlings. So lets hope he gets to them in time. We did
see Wunwun breaking through what could be the gates at Castle Black in the second trailer,
so lets hope they manage to keep Jon's body in one piece.
So Bolton Ramsey is even more disturbing than ever. Its actually got to the point of ridiculous
on the show with his character. When they ask him what do with Myranda's body he says
she's good meat feed her to the hounds. Just revolting really.
Talking of Ramsey's hounds, they are pursuing Sansa and Theon, who are forced to cross and
ocy river. And I couldn't help but think that for the first time in this life Theon was
probably relieved that he didn't have anything down there to freeze off.
So anyway Sansa ad Theon are rescued by Brienne and her squire Podrick. Theon is becoming
more and more useful, and even manages to save Podrick from certain death.
So Sansa's escape is of course bad news for Ramsey as he is being put under a lot of pressure
to have son. Sansa, Brienne and company are going to go North to castle Black seeking
Jon, who they don't know is dead (for now).
So moving onto Kings Landing, Jaime returns from Dorne with Marcella's body. Cersei is
genuinely shattered by the news, and believes that all the prophesies of her children dying
is coming to pass. And you can't blame her for believing this, as 2 out of her 3 children
have been murdered.
But she is inspired by a resurgent Jaime who delivers the best line of the episode. As
her convinces her to forget the prophesy and make their own destiny. Everything they've
taken from us, we're going to take back and more!” Just wait until her finds out that
High Sparrow made her do the walk of shame! The trailers have teased this confrontation!
And I personally can't wait for Jaime to put him down for good! Long overdue in my opinion!
Margaery Tyrell is still in prison, but surely not for much longer, as we have seen Jaime
leading the Tyrell army against the High Sparrow.
Jaime is clearly going to do anything to protect his only remaining son, and the king of Westeros
Tommin – and high sparrow is clearly a massive threat, who as I said needs to go.
No surprises in Dorne as the Sand Snake continue with their plan to overthrow the Martell's.
They clearly have the support of most Dorne's military as they simply stand and watch as
kills Doran Martell. Now that Ellaria seemingly has control over Dorne and its armies will
she march against King's Landing and specifically the Lannisters.
Tyrion and Varys are now seemingly ruling Meereen in Daenerys's absence. Interestingly
Melinsandre's cult is being proselyted throughout Meereen.
Daenerys is now going to be taken to Vaes Dothrak to live out the rest of days with
the rest of the Khal's widows. But we've seen glimpses of Drogon in the trailers, and I
think he's going to rescue her soon, but Daario and Jorah are of course also on her trail,
and its going to be interesting to see who gets to her first! But we know Jorah is going
to rushing as he is of course being overtaken by the greyscale. Thee big question is, how
long does he before it spreads and he goes full stone men on us?
Arya is having a rough time, but after a short daredevil-esque training session will be admitted
back to the house of black and white. Of course its going to be fascinating to see
how all these stories converge over this season and the last 2 in the series.
So before I wrap it up, lets quickly breakdown the promo trailer for the upcoming episode
entitled “Home”.
So the trailer opens with a shot of Bran lying down. Remember last time we saw Bran was at
the end of Season 4. His friend Jojen had just been killed by a group of wights, and
Meera and Bran are led deep into the cave where they meet the 3 eyed raven who is a
very old man fused with the Weirwood tree. Bran asks the Raven if he can help him walk
again, to which the raven answers “you'll never walk again, but you will fly”
So its unclear exactly what Bran has been up to all this time we haven't seen him. And
is no doubt increasing his warging mind control powers and is no doubt increasing his over
all power and knowledge.
We see Cersei with the newly reanimated corpse of “Mountain” aka Ser Gregor Clegane,
now going by the name Ser Robert Strong facing off against some guards (who are apparently
under orders from the king in other words her only remaining son. It could be that Cersei
and Jaime are going to fundamentally disagree with how they should act with regards to the
whole high sparrow issue.
Sansa asking Brienne about the fate of Arya and where she could be. Ramsey is convinced
Sansa will head to castle black, and proposes and invasion to get her back. So if Roone
allows this plan it could see the Bolton's forces stretched and weakened. Especially
if they think they only going up against the Night's watch and find the wildlings there
as well.
Jaime facing of against my least favourite character high sparrow next to Marcello's
body.
Allistair Thorne trying to break through the door where Jon Snow, and Ser Davos are holed
up in. And Tyrion in Meereen decides to have a look
at what has become of Daenerys other 2 dragons.
So there you have it. Hope you enjoyed this video! if you did please like and then share
