What do you got going on?
Oh, yeah.
Can't believe we're actually seeing you here.
Total dream.
You're not here to buy anything.
No.
Yes, a little bit.
I just know how to do it.
Yes.
It's pretty good.
Not on Saturday, bro.
Monday through Friday -- Saturday, that's my day.
Are you guys texting each other?
We're doing freaking research.
You're doing freaking research.
Blinds, okay. So why?
We just moved into a new house.
What would be a room in your house
that you'd love to just really redo?
Yeah.
What does it look like now?
Saltillo tiles on the floor.
You got saltillo on the floor.
And what kind on the counter?
Ceramic, yes.
Cut the crap and say "yes."
You'll hate yourself if you don't say "yes."
Three days -- licensed contractor, come in,
knock out a room, you guys have to help.
Yeah, when?
What do you mean, "But when"?
Right now. We go.
We tell your blinds they got to wait.
I'm Grace.
This is Alex.
Alex.
Yeah, absolutely.
Do you guys do anything yourself?
Uh, yeah, I make it worse.
Yeah, I figured.
Disney accountants.
Accountant for Disney.
No. No.
We're both from Texas.
You're both from Texas? You're Texans?
We say "y'all."
All right, I'm gonna get my car. I'm gonna come back,
and I'm gonna follow you to your house.
Good?
See you later.
So stereotypical Texas.
Well, this is a cute little neighborhood.
Welcome.
We haven't moved in yet.
Haven't even moved in yet.
Let's go in.
Oh, wow!
What did you envision this being?
Formal dining.
So the idea would be to keep this wall?
We want to open it up.
No, I figured.
Whoa! Wow, track fluorescent light.
Where are you guys on style?
We're pretty modern.
A lot of the cabinets are stuck, and we've seen
the most recent cabinets with the better hinges.
Drawers where you can slam it and it --
Soft close.
The countertops, I think, white. Something that pops.
We're not opposed to color in the kitchen, as well.
This space is great, and then we have these barriers.
Yeah, absolutely, this has to go.
I love that you guys know what you want, kind of.
No, you're not.
Serious, but fun.
Yes.
Okay, I've said enough. I've heard enough.
Are you ready for the deal?
I'm gonna come back here with my tools,
with materials, and we crash your house.
That means we're here for three days...
Holy cow.
...and when we leave, you have a brand-new room in your house.
Wow.
Your part is this -- and now you got to think about it.
You've got to be here all three days.
You have to bring friends all three days.
And once I come, I'm the boss.
You have to do everything I say.
As long as you teach us, we're good.
Okay, so it's a deal? We're shaking on it?
Alex, Grace?
All right, I'll be back.
Serious, but fun.
Like me.
It's time to get crashed. Here we go. Let's go.
Yeah, let's go!
Come on! Come on! Come on! Come on! Come on! Come on!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Made it. Oh!
Sorry.
What happened? Is it fake?
No, it's real. Basketball and age.
You're still gonna have to work.
You got friends.
You should have brought a couple more friends,
but that's okay.
You're in good hands, 'cause look at all the friends I got.
What's up, fellas?
[ All cheering ]
All right, we got Nick Schreiber,
Living Treasures, his gang.
We got New Beginning's Electric.
We got Jim's Pasadena Plumbing.
We are good to go. You want your kitchen crashed?
Yeah! Now, let's do it.
Limp in. Let's go.
Come on! Come on! Come on! Let's go. Let's go.
Nick, could you imagine you and I
cooking in this kitchen together?
It's tight quarters.
You need open -- okay, first of all,
we got major problems with this kitchen, right?
All the answers are right there.
All right, ready. Come on, Nick.
Oh, my gosh.
This wall is now gonna be gone.
No way.
NARRATOR: Josh's plan is to open up the kitchen
into the dining space.
All the old cabinets get replaced with new, modern ones
topped with quartz countertops and all-new appliances,
That's crazy.
And in the dining room, Josh's plan calls for
a sexy dining room table and a funky floor treatment
all to create a one-of-a-kind entertainment area.
Oh, my gosh. That is so cool.
Let's get everything out of here so we can start demo.
Good?
All right, let's go. Let's go.
Oh!
We have a lot of demo to do. It's all got to come down.
We need some ventilation.
Oh, my gosh.
[ Laughter ]
Come on, come on!
Oh, man! I have one leg.
One, two, three.
I'd say, "get closer," but you can't.
Two, three.
[ Cheering ]
NARRATOR: Up next, Grace and Josh tackle the new wall.
Fire in the hole. Oh!
No!
And Grace has doubts about the new floor.
Uh, it looks to me like cafeteria-room linoleum.
Are you guys texting each other?
NARRATOR: Yesterday, Josh Temple found Grace and Alex
shopping for blinds.
What would be a room in your house
that you'd love to just really redo?
Now they're smashing tile and trashing cabinets
to turn their outdated kitchen into a modern masterpiece.
With the kitchen gutted,
Josh and Alex start building the pony wall.
Now we are gonna cut 9 studs at 39".
I'm pulling from this left side, right?
What you want to do is look from the left side.
See, I got to do all the running.
I don't know if I like this.
What the...you just cut.
You didn't -- hey, you just put --
Look!
Yeah, I missed the line.
By, like a good 1/8".
Now you have to fix it.
No!
Right to the left.
Number one, you started it on the wood.
Number two, that line is right there.
[ Scoffs ]
We're gonna try this again.
One.
Once the 2x4s are cut,
Josh and Alex can assemble the frame.
This is our bottom plate. It's pressure treated.
We've marked off where our studs go -- 16 on center.
So what we're gonna do is we're gonna shoot them here,
here, here, all the way down -- all those studs that we cut.
Two -- one up high, one down low.
Good. Good. Scoot your boot.
All right, now what we have left to do.
This is our pony wall.
We have one more top plate to go.
We'll put this in place, and then we'll put that on.
Good job.
Inside, the crew is stripping the parquet,
and Josh and Grace install the new wall.
Okay.
Okay, so what you're gonna do here,
right about here, you're gonna push all the way down.
You're gonna say "fire in the hole,"
and then you're gonna pull the trigger.
Fire in hole.
Ohh! [ Laughs ]
Yeah.
That's awesome!
You looked like an animal trying to get out of a cage.
You went...[Growls]
Yeah.
All right, so here we go.
Whoa.
Fire in the hole.
Awesome.
So, we got a beam and a pony wall.
We're now starting to see the shell of your kitchen.
While the crew faces the pony wall,
Grace gets a look at the new flooring.
What do you think of it?
Uh, it looks to me like cafeteria-room linoleum.
Well, let's see what it looks like when it's all done.
NARRATOR: To get started, the girls trowel the adhesive.
Once it's dry, they lay the tiles
while Josh and Alex tackle the dining room.
All right, final task of the night.
You know your floor -- you got that nice parquet,
but you weren't crazy about the parquet?
What we're doing is we're giving it a nice modern look.
So it's gonna look like this, look like this, like this,
but it's gonna go gray then poly, then gray, then poly.
All the way around.
Let's start with the perimeter,
and then when we end up in the middle,
we'll end up with three strips of gray in the middle,
which will be under your brand-new dining room table.
I'm gonna try to pull as straight a line as I can.
Okay, good, good, good.
All right, we're done laying this out.
Grace!
Oooooh!
Come here and look at what we're doing.
Nice work over there.
Huge Day 1, that was a lot of demo.
A lot.
Homework -- do what Nick says over here,
and then you also have to paint the gray on this.
We'll hit Day 2 hard, right?
All right, get it done.
Day 2, I am feeling a lot better.
We painted the floors last night.
Putting down the floor -- I will say it looks a lot better
than I thought it was gonna look.
Alex and Grace, what do you think of this?
Pretty cool.
Alex, you wanted one thing.
ALEX: Soft close.
Soft-close hinges is all he wanted for his kitchen.
[ Laughter ]
I'm just kidding. Look at that.
GRACE: Oh, my gosh.
You wanted a color. Is this a good color for you?
It's an awesome color.
Can we put them in?
Let's do it.
Joe Estrada, the cabinet man himself,
That's right.
Nick and I are just the handsome muscle.
NARRATOR: Up next, Grace tries out the screw gun.
Oh! Oh! Oh!
And the new countertops are a hit.
Oh, my gosh!
But the table build starts to get messy.
Oh, come on! Is it the kid with the cast?!
NARRATOR: For Josh's favorite projects and tips,
head on over to the Crashers page at hgtv.com/crashers.
JOSH: Oh, wow.
Two days ago, Grace and Alex's kitchen
This has to go.
Now the sleek new cabinets are going in.
And Josh and Alex start building the new table.
So, Alex, this walnut right here
is going to be your dining room table.
ALEX: Nice.
And we're gonna make it 8 feet long by 45 inches wide.
So we're gonna have to rip both sides,
get them nice and smooth so they can fit together,
and then we're gonna use a biscuit joiner.
These are biscuits. This is the biscuit joiner.
Yep.
That spins. It cuts like a half circle.
So you fit these in.
You know what I'm talking about, right?
Then we glue them.
Then we clamp it all together, leave it overnight,
and we just sand the crap out of this thing,
and then nice, clear polyurethane finish --
three coats.
So you're gonna learn how to do all of this stuff.
GRACE: Yeah.
You are here to catch, and catch only.
I don't want any sass. I don't want anything.
No back-talk, I promise.
Already -- are you giving me the hand right now?
Of course not.
NARRATOR: To get started,
they rip the edges on the walnut planks.
NICK: That's sweet.
I like that a lot.
All right, Alex,
Now what we're gonna do is we're gonna cut the ends of one side.
Straight cuts,
making sure everything is up against that fence.
It's a perpendicular cut, okay?
But seriously, blood, sweat, and tears on these right now.
Yeah, no pressure.
Wait till it goes to full RPM before you cut.
After the ends are trimmed,
Josh and Alex sand the edges.
All right, so we've sanded our sides.
So now the next thing is
we got to make sure this is super, ultra-tight.
All right, so what we're gonna do is biscuits.
And we're gonna do a biscuit every 6 inches.
Once Josh marks the boards,
Alex cuts slots using the biscuit joiner.
JOSH: The next part is all hands on deck, and, Nick,
you are ready with bunches of glue, bunches of biscuits.
This is like no joke --
knock over the kid with the cast if he's in the way.
It is started.
Come on! Biscuits! Biscuits! Biscuits!
We're doing -- Oh, come on! Is it the kid with the cast?!
Get him out.
Dude, he's like breathing heavy --
Oh, you jerk.
We got to keep going. We got to keep going.
There we go.
NARRATOR: With the biscuits set, the guys wedge the boards tight.
All right, there's so much force going on
that all these boards are starting to crown a little bit
'cause we're sucking it up so heavily.
So we got to keep everything on a level plane.
That was a blitzkrieg of building.
The best thing is we are flat. We are flush. We are great.
Right now, all we do is let that glue dry.
We're gonna belt sand the top,
fill a little bit where we have to,
stick on some legs.
What do the legs look like?
I guess -- all right, that's fair.
Stay. I'll bring the legs out.
Holy cow.
Wow.
These are not only custom.
They're custom made by an artist from Texas.
Where are you from?
He's Austin, Texas.
Oh, that's awesome.
Nice and chunky, and this will go to the table.
This is the leg.
Very happy.
Yeah.
This is better than the silent drawers.
Yeah.
Okay, we upped it. That's not bad.
All right, come on, Grace.
NARRATOR: Back inside, Josh has a project for Grace.
So we are gonna give you this very hip, cool backsplash.
It's glass, right.
It's gonna be a panel that goes in here.
Now what we're gonna do --
the glass is getting cut and polished right now.
Then we're gonna paint the back side of it.
Okay?
So, then what we'll do is we'll slide it in like this.
We'll put this channel that comes down and just wedge it in.
That is so cool. I've never seen that before.
Because it's the newest, freshest, hippest thing.
See?
You're gonna be the envy of your block.
I know. I will be.
[ Laughs ]
Okay.
This, I want you to go right into there.
Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!
Go slow.
Just pull the trigger barely.
A little bit more. Little bit more.
There we go.
Holy. I'll do this one.
Okay, so this channel is gonna hold your backsplash.
Now, do you know what's even better news?
Oh, my gosh. [ Laughs ]
Oh, that's awesome.
It's beautiful.
It's all post-consumer, recycled stuff.
No way.
These guys are gonna do some trimming,
make sure it gets all in, and they're gonna set all these.
Okay.
Let's do it.
While the crew installs the counters,
Grace and Josh paint the backsplash.
Okay, we've got a special paint that's perfect for glass.
So you're gonna go about 8 inches to 12 inches away,
and you're gonna swipe.
Let's get this one off. We got to keep going.
Yeah, you're just not as good as I am.
You're just not.
It's okay, though. All right, so we let these dry.
Cool.
Back inside, the guys start sealing the parquet floors.
Yo. Yo. Wow.
It looks awesome.
I love the way that's turning out.
Okay, so I'm guessing you guys now know your homework?
Polyurethaning the floor,
and then tomorrow, Day 3, we go home.
Awesome.
All right, get to work.
Let's go.
Morning.
Nicholas Schreiber, this table looks amazing.
What do you think? You're at the head of the table right now.
It is. It's incredible.
And I'm glad you're sanding, 'cause we have a lot of work to do to it.
We got to sand it. We got to belt sand it.
We got to poly it three times. We got to cut that edge.
We got to put legs on it.
That's just the table. It's Day 3.
So I'm gonna jump on this with you.
You guys start your project inside, okay?
Hyah! Hyah!
NARRATOR: Up next, Grace and Josh
Oh!
Alex and Grace check out the slick new range hood.
Awesome.
And these lucky homeowners see their kitchen transformed.
Oh, my gosh. Whoo!
NARRATOR: Three days ago,
licensed contractor Josh Temple was searching for a project.
So give me the lowdown on it.
Alex and Grace's cramped kitchen
was screaming for a makeover.
Oh, definitely. You need help for sure.
With just hours left in this three-day house crash,
the new appliances are going in.
And Alex and Josh race to finish the dining room table.
Thanks.
Next, they putty the gaps,
then sand the surface before adding the legs.
All right, so one thing -- pre-drilling.
Make sure that that drill is plumb as possible,
because you're making a pilot hole
Okay.
Good.
I think you got it.
NARRATOR: With the clock ticking,
the crew works fast to finish painting
while Nick seals the table out back.
Inside, the glass backsplash is ready to go up.
Grace, girl. Grace, Grace, Grace, Grace!
Yeah.
Oh!
That was just this.
We're still not out of the woods.
Okay, we're in.
We're in! We're in! We're in! We're in!
You know what that is?
[ Laughs ]
Nick and Josh add the final panel,
and the backsplash is in.
Back it up. Take in the full picture.
It's gorgeous.
I could just sit here and look at this, but we can't.
It's Day 3, so let's finish strong, people!
Come on, girl! Come on! Come on, people!
With the sun setting on this three-day house crash,
the crew hits fast-forward,
and the transformation is complete.
Grace and Alex, come check out your new kitchen.
Oh, my gosh. Whoo!
That is so awesome!
Our kitchen before had such a throwback feel to it.
It was very closed. It had a strange island.
Now it's so amazing. It's open.
There's so much more light.
JOSH: There were red tiles with blue dots on the floor.
Now what do you have?
You have a cool, checkerboard floor.
GRACE: I was very skeptical about the flooring,
and it looks so nice.
JOSH: There was track lighting,
a big fridge right here, and a wall.
You've got all-new appliances, hood, and fridge drawer.
GRACE: So cool.
GRACE: The range hood is gorgeous with the glass,
and the new dishwasher -- ahh, everything works.
You have trick new cabinets with soft-close hinges.
And then, look at your bar top and look at all that view.
And then, come on -- 9 feet of love right there.
ALEX: The table, for me, was huge.
The feet that are from Austin, Texas,
that just holds a special place in my heart.
You worked so hard. You had great friends come in and help.
The biggest thank-you obviously goes to Nick Schreiber,
Living Treasures, and the crew.
Come on, guys. Get in here.
Thank you.
Alex, Grace, enjoy your crash.
Thank you.
We're out of here, guys. Come on.
Bye.
Whoo!
This is the lottery of home improvements, and we won.
