Welcome everyone to our bakesale. This is a great turnout; let's give ourselves a big
hand. [applause]
As you can see, we just have a few items up here and they're fairly expensive. Let me
explain this to you. We have, we have three master bakers here and the first one, we have
a gingerbread house for a million dollars. Any bids?
[laughter]
The second one: A really delicious, huge cupcake - also for a million dollars.
>> Any bids? [crowd noise]
>> Nothing? Okay. And, finally...
some very sad gingerbread men - also a million. [crowd noise]
Sad. The reason we're having this expensive, ridiculous
bakesale is that PDD is cutting three million dollars from services to people with developmental
disabilities in Calgary. [crowd shouting shame]
[booing] Agencies have been asked to participate in
this fiasco by telling PDD how they're going to make these cuts by this afternoon at 4:30.
[crowd shouting shame] [booing]
So, I think that you can see, we have another solution.
And our solution is with a holiday message.
When the Grinch first came to Whoville to steal from it's citizens, the people didn't
fall apart. In fact, the people came together. And what the Grinch saw was that the true
meaning of community is that people standing together for justice and fairness is far stronger
than greed. [cheering]
[whistling] [applause]
The Grinch's heart grew two and a half times that day. Let's encourage the government's
heart to grow two and a half times today. [cheering]
