This is Charles McMahon for Expert Village. We are continuing on our repair of our chair.
When I say dowel, I am talking about a piece of wood like this that you can get in a well
equipped hardware store. You can get these over a range of sizes. This one is 7/16’s
diameter but you can get them in sizes from very small to pretty large in steps of about
1/16 of an inch and this is made of hardwood, probably oak. This cost less than $2.00. What
we are going to do is make spindles out of this as cutting this off at the right length
and replacing the broken spindles. You can see with this one, this works pretty well.
What we should do when we are all finished of course, is stain these so that they don’t
really stand out so strongly and if you stain them with a close finish, then people tend
not to notice it but even if they do, so what.
