Hi everyone. My name is Lyne Johnson.
I’m 64 years of age and I work for Greyhound Australia.
I’ve been there for 31 years, I’m the regional manager
and I look after Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, ACT
and I love my job because I travel all the time, it’s terrific.
I started off in the call centre as a casual.
About 12 years ago a position came up in operations.
They said just apply and I was fortunate enough to get it.
My job is very full on in that I’m very rarely home.
I’m up bright and early every morning.
I have managers and supervisors in each of the states that I oversee.
I make sure that I ring them every day and we sit down and we have a chat.
We also make sure that all our coaches meet safety standards.
When I’m in Melbourne I’ll go through and check seatbelts, check tire levels.
We were the first coach company in the world that had a reservation system that was computerised.
We’ve got our IT department that are continually doing upgrades.
We’ve gone from just the basic reservation system, to our accounting, our Navman
we can track any bus, anywhere.
There’s not a day goes by when something doesn’t happen in our computer system.
We’ve have such a diverse range of ages with us.
I’ve found that with the more mature drivers that we have they’re reliable, they’re flexible.
And they’ve got life experience that they can actually bring to the job.
I think I’m one of the most fortunate people around in that I love my job.
Interacting with people I’ve learnt so much over the last 30 odd years.
Definitely retirement’s not on my agenda at the moment. Definitely not.
