One of the newest lines of dinnerware that we are carrying in the registry center at
la Terrine is called Alice Goldsmith. It's actually right here in New York, it's out
of Brooklyn and I got to go to her studio the other day and actually watched them as
they made some of the dinnerware and just got to see, you know, where everything was
made, and see all their molds and all their glaze colors, it was a lot of fun. It makes
you really appreciate the line. It is one of the most unique, if not the most unique
lines i think that we're carrying at the store now.
It's all made from American porcelain, comes in about a dozen colors, and Alice actually
explained to me, she physically created each of these glazes, so it can take anywhere up
to six months to get the right color that she is striving to get, you know that she's
had in mind, and they all come out so beautifully.
When you say something is hand-made, this is actually one-hundred percent, completely
hand-made. Each item is completely different, the company consists of about four people,
each person has their own job whether it's creating the molds, or actually throwing the
dinnerware on the putter stool, it's just really really incredible.
All of the dinnerware and the dinnerplates, salad plates, mugs, cups and saucers, they
are all thrown one piece at a time on the wheel. As far as the others, the serving pieces
and things, those are actually made from a mold, and there is one collection, it's called
her hammered collection. The hammered texture is actually added to the mold before, she
gives it that look.
One of my favorites in the dinnerware is the dinnerware that has an oxidized edge and it
is actually applied right before it goes into the kiln, so it has a drip, an actual drip
effect on the dinnerware and drips into the center of the plates. It's really really incredible.
All of the dinnerware has a spiral center that shows the effects of being hand made
on the wheel. It's just a really unique collection, great to add in with serving pieces or to
do all of the dinnerware, the line keeps expanding. It's really great and it's all dishwasher
safe so it's very functional as well. Come and check it out.
