In January 2011, food production giant Tyson Foods became the newest member of the ICE program called IMAGE.
IMAGE (ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers) encourages companies to learn and follow best hiring practices.
John Morton: I want to particularly congratulate Tyson Foods today for setting the standard for a Fortune 500 company.
Tyson Food is one of the largest companies in the world. It has nearly 100,000 employees here in the United States.
And the company has now put into place an employment verification plan that is truly a model for the country.
Ken Kimbro, SVP and Chief HR Officer, Tyson Foods: We take this issue of employment verification very seriously.
Tyson has zero tolerance for employing people who are not authorized to work in the United States.
That's why we use all available tools by the US government to verify the documents of the people we hire.
Compliance is not simply a good business practice, it is the law.
ICE is committed to creating a culture of compliance among US employers.
Fortunately, the overwhelming majority of employers want to comply with the law.
And our job there is simply to help them do that, thorough programs such as E-Verify and through IMAGE.
For those employers that donĂt want to follow the law, however, a firmer approach is in order.
That is why our enforcement efforts this past year were at an all-time high:
Criminal arrests, I-9 audits, and civil fines.
If a company as large as Tyson Foods can get compliance right, any company in the United States can get it right.
