to honor today's Peoples Health Champion - "Buzzy" Gaiennie
Buzzy Gaiennie: I'm 71 years old and everything I've learned in life
I'm using today to give back to the community.
David Francis: On June 3, 2008, at the age of 70, Richard "Buzzy" Gaiennie
broke ground on the future home of Bridge House.
When they move in next month, staff and residents
will move into a 10 million dollar state of the art facility.
The significantly enhanced capacity and resources will serve
the program's mission of rebuilding lives.
Through Buzzy's guidance Bridge House generates
85% of their revenues from internal programs.
Buzzy's program is unique; it utilizes work therapy
which teaches residents to be self-sufficient in society.
He's created a business plan that uses donated cars and appliances to generate
the revenues needed to run Bridge House.
Buzzy's life experiences have made him a natural for this position.
As a recovering alcoholic he is able to understand other's pain.
This enables him to guide the residents down the right path.
When you talk to Buzzy about aging, he shrugs it off.
He says it's about being productive.
Buzzy Gaiennie: The thrill of work excites me and I intend to keep on giving.
