The buildings are beautiful. They're cute. They're sweet. They're special. Fifty to a hundred years old! Giving them a
facelift gives us all hope.
When I first heard about the Benjamin Moore campaign, I looked at it as:
Okay here's a chance. We need this.
You know so much of our community is based on family,
relationships, our friendships,
trust, and love. We all know our community is a strong community
because people work together. "I'll be back later tonight to finish the rest of this!"
Since we're putting some paint,
you know, in downtown, since we're beautifying downtown, you know, let's take it
to the next step.
Having the Benjamin Moore campaign
galvanized people! It's serving as a catalyst.
The Small Business Development Center, they're doing some seminars
for businesses to do better in their business while their
outside is being beautified and painted.
It's for some small business seminars, like some free things you can do to help, help the business.
There is this engagement happening.
I believe that HPM
has truly benefitted.
And is grateful for the community supporting our business for ninety three years.
The minimum we can do
is to continue or to expand the program.
So there's ten dollars of 10 gallons of paint.
HPM backed that up with the coupon of their own: twenty-five dollars of $200 bucks.
If you want to finish, finish. That's what that's for.
It goes beyond just downtown
to all members of the community.
It started with Benjamin Moore saying we're gonna do this. The result was from
people saying what else can we do?
When we learned about the repainting of main street, we saw it as an opportunity to
build relationships with the folks, and so
we've offered a 50 percent discount
on signage.
Hey! How's it going? A sign coupon from The Makery.
Just some people working with us to help the revitalization.
They're offering 50 percent off...
When people go, "Oh, they're just painting buildings,"
or "They're just painting the first floor," you know? I thought: "Wow! That's something that
we never would have dreamed of being able to do!
Just? I mean that's a huge!"
It's the beginning of the next phase of downtown Hilo. It's not, you know, the answer to everything
but it's the beginning of something wonderful!"
