Hi there, it's Linda Candy from Golf Mental Tips with your quick video tip of the week.
Now I was wondering what to talk to you about today when I got a Tweet from Justin and he
said, 'If you are leading by one final hole and you have just birdied 16 and 17 how do
you control the adrenaline?' Well Justin that is absolutely a fantastic question and it
bothers so many golfers and we all know that feeling don't we, that hype, the adrenaline
is running forward? Well there are a couple of things you should be doing at this stage;
1 have a brilliant pre-shot routine. A pre-shot routine isn't there just to make you look
good, it's not there to wiggle your bottom a little bit, or just to get your hands in
the right position. A pre-shot routine is actually to get your head right as well, it
is to have the right mindset for the shot, to get your focus in the place where it should
be, to actually visualise the shot. The pre-shot routine covers a whole great big heap of things
but it does prepare your mind and your body to make the shot that you want to make. Now
another thing that helps when you're in this kind of situation is to stay in the present.
A lot of times when you are that one hole ahead you're already collecting the trophy,
collecting the cup in your mind, you are already thinking about it; 'Just one more', 'Just
got to get that', 'I'm nearly there' and that self talk is pulling you down it's working
against you because all you should be concentrating on is the shot in hand. Don't think about
the two birdies you've already done and you know what the mind goes now 'I've done two
can I make a third one? Oh, please let me make a third one', again NO all you need to
do is think about this shot that you are going to take the ones you've done are in the past,
you don't need to think about them. I know they were brilliant holes and you've done
fantastically well but take them out of your mind focus on the here and now. Also, you've
got all that adrenalin surging through your body well if you if you have it there and
you can feel it inside you need to do some centering breathing - just take some nice
deep breaths, bring yourself back to the present, step up to the ball, do your pre-shot routine
and do your best. Well I hope that helped Justin, thank you for the question - if anybody
else has any questions just send them to me you never know yours maybe one that is picked
out to be answered. Well that's it for this week, see you next Thursday. Bye
