Have you ever wondered if it's possible to draw a bar code by hand?
Let's try it!
My colleague decided to experiment with a Code 39 barcode symbol
First he draws the so-called start character.
... The pattern for the data follows ...
Make sure to maintain an accurate width ratio between the narrow and wide bars or spaces.
In the case of a Code 39 the width of a wide bar is usually 3 times the width of a narrow bar.
If possible use a chisel tipped pen - it is easier to draw the bars.
And finally draw the stop-character.
For Code39 start and stop characters are identical.
Now lets check if the barcode is readable!
We scan the barcode using a HTC Legend smartphone with the camera scanner App named Zebra Crossing.
If you are wondering how my colleague remembers the correct pattern just visit http://barcode.tec-it.com and generate a sample barcode.
