Kim Sikes, Associate Director [CAIT] at WIU: WIU Mobile
is the mobile application and we developed it
because were seeing an increasing number of students
coming to campus with mobile technology, mobile devices.
What our goal was to figure out how to communicate
with these students who are now on the go.
I'll start out by kind of showing you
around the interactive campus map.
When you click on the campus map
it's going to take you into this screen.
You can zoom by using your normal gestures
and you can see hear there's Sallee Hall,
Memorial Hall, right now they have little icons over them.
If you click on the preference area
you can turn on and off the different icons.
These are each called "Map Overlays"
and so maybe I want to see where
all the blue light emergency call boxes are on campus.
So I select that and click back.
Now, you can see that there are large "E's"
I'm going to zoom out here
just so you can kind of see it a little better.
You can see the different "E's" here
each one of those is the location
of the emergency call boxes.
You can also see when I zoom in
there's a computer lab icon on Memorial Hall.
If I click on that computer lab icon
it will tell me what room the computer lab's in.
If I click on that it will take me
to a computer lab page that shows me
exactly how many workstations are currently available.
How many total workstations there are
in that computer lab
this is real time information
it's updated every 10 seconds.
As information within the computer labs change.
As you're walking from building to building
maybe it's lunch time but you aren't sure
where you want to eat.
If you click on "Dining" you can see a list
of the different dining centers
as well as other options for dining on campus.
Maybe I'm close to Lincoln-Washington-Grote
so I'm going to click on the south quad
and see what they have for lunch today.
These are the different options
that they do have for lunch.
I think today I'm interested
in the "Beef-stew & Biscuit"
so I want to see what the nutritional information is on that.
Each one of our menu options
does have nutritional information associated with it.
You can also see here that you can navigate
up to a week in advance
for the individual dining options
as well as view breakfast, lunch, and dinner
at the click of a button.
I want to go back.
We also have other dining options on campus.
this is basically a list of different dining locations
that are not your residence hall dining centers
and what their hours are.

Kim Sikes, Associate Director [CAIT] at WIU: Were planning on releasing a second version
I don't know when yet.
Right now what were looking at is
gathering feedback based on version one.
We're very interested in feedback & suggestions.
Obviously from students here on campus
as well other faculty, administration, etc.
