so appeasing company and uh... indiana hired a twenty five-year-old man by the
name of adam childress
odd he it was about chu hai three hundred forty pounds when they first
hired him
and um... you know twenty five-year-old obviously not in the healthiest
condition while on the job he got hit by a refrigerator door already hurt his
back he went to the doctors and said look you need back surgery but the back
surgery isn't gonna make any difference unless you lose weight you need to have
the lap-band surgery done in addition to the back surgery biz lap-band surgery
lap-band of papers i was ama ha signed up for best for three right now but the
lap-band uh... it's kind of similar to gastric bypass
so um... you know
turns out that his employers will not only have to pay for his back surgery
they'll also have to pay for his weight loss surgery
that this is an interesting story i think that's in a couple of different
directions because the doctor said hey listen it's i we gotta do both otherwise
it's useless birthday
and you certainly responsible for the back injury right
they say
i don't know how ppm refrigerator door here in the back p_m_s_ got leader but
he really does have a problem like the doctors urea so
uh... on the other hand it's obviously this fall for being a fat *** with a
look that's what everybody thinks right and
believe me i i know what i'm talking about repeat it's not like my employer
may be difficult burgers and

so it's kind of a tough thing uh... i'm certain i don't think it's nothing at
all it's interesting no not at all that honestly when i read the story i was
pretty outreach because
this is a negative thing in a couple different ways okay
first of all this uh... pizza company is not only gonna have to pay for the back
surgery which we don't know how much that's gonna cost but for the weight
loss surgery alone they're gonna have to pay twenty to twenty-five thousand
dollars so this dude is costing them a ton of money
people who read this story and people hear about this
companies are gonna be afraid to hire overweight people because of this and
this is gonna cause discrimination that that was my number one concern so i
thought our own no i don't do that because if you do with everything
this illegally are not allowed to discriminate that way and it if they're
qualify for the job doesn't matter how much they weigh it said around that
that's not a i was in the qualification or that you're taking it out
but in the real world
you see the guy or the girl when you're interviewing them biggest at all we
hired in higher than for different reasons
with that kind of discrimination is the easiest thing in the world yes so i'm
afraid that this can encourage it a little bit
another hannah they are responsible for the back surgery right
and it won't do any good
as this that's what the court ruled that way
if it turns out that
you know he doesn't have other surviving is unfair that these companies gonna
lose twenty five thousand dollars because this guy's fat
and so you like that's a terrible thing to say but it's the truth it's i mean
they hired this guy
when he was three hundred forty pounds he's now three hundred eighty pounds
and you know they discriminate against and they gave him a shot you know he was
working for them and they seem like up like three people because they're
willing to pay for the back surgery they said they have to pay for the backs of
training are great
uh... right now i think i don't know i'd just i just think it's wrong that
they're gonna have to pay for the fact that he's overweight but the thing is he
doesn't have the money for the other server so
what do you suppose to do like if you're the judge
and
so what do you say you say done okay then don't have the back burner
bill you know if they don't have the back surgery but then the wire you gonna
go to the extreme opposite end of the section and say all right this company
is gonna have to pay for his
yellowdog i'm parley playing devil's advocate matter so you're safe i think
it's a lot closer than you think i think the core assets
way that and it's lose i just about this case that a lot of cases like for
executives and it doesn't have to just be about weight
you know you had uh...
uh... prior i don't know elbow conditioning you get your elbow and
you're back at all making stuff up
but then they always have to judge what part is the responsibility of employer
what party are you responsible for
and did both of those injuries lead to the one
uh... problem in who should pay the bills because of that it gets very very
complicated i don't think it's an easy answer in this case it seems easier
because the guys that's the reason those all it's his fault for being fat
whereas if you had a prior back injury robo injured doesn't seem like it's
going to vote
your fault
so it's definitely more colvida but in the and in this case agree with u_n_
uh... it's tet make the company pay that extra uh... twenty twenty five thousand
dollars one i don't think it's
really fair
and number two by the you're right on really worry about the precedent yeah
