Allright, Luca, are you ready?
Yeah, I am ready
Allright, ok. To warm you up a little bit, please share
your story, how you were able to
become functionally fluent in 12 languages?
Ehm, I started learning languages at the age of 10, when I was in middle school
I started learning English and French, but I have to say that
I didn't learn that much at school, because
as many other school systems, the italian school sysstem is not very efficient
as far as language learning is concerned,
so what happened is that at the age of 12 my parents decided to hire a private tutor,
she is american, and I started learning American English with her by taking private lessons.
At the same time I kept learning French at school, I was watching a lot of television.
But it was only at the age of 15 that I actually found the way, or "my way" to learn languages.
And when I tried to tackle German, at the beginning it was a little bit difficult.
You know, German is not an easy language, especially for us Italians grammar is pretty complicated etc.
So what I did, I got hold of a dusty old grammar book that my grandma had, and I tried to learn Grammar.
So I started with this grammar approach, but I very soon just figured it didn't work
so I started using a course that is called De Agostini
and I finally started to apply it to use it in a suitable way for me.
I started learning quickly, and I realized that learning
a language by yourself can actually be much faster than
learning a language in institutions and schools.
After that, I figured out a way to work with languages and to work on languages.
I learned Spanish the Dutch, Swedish, Russian, etc etc.
And I decided to learn one language every 2 years
because I think that when people talk about
learning languages, maintaining languages is also very important.
So in the course of time this turned out to be a very sound strategy,
to keep learning but at the same time maintaining the knowledge and the languages that I was accumulating and learning
in the course of time, and here i am
