"Hi Matt and welcome to Adelaide." "It's good to be here Bill."
"What's your first impresssions of Adelaide?" "Fantastic; it's ah... it's beautiful, as ah... city. Great cab service and ah... it's been a treat so far
and I haven't even sampled the wine yet!"
"I, I think you know smartphones
are the future. You know...
these devices are going to be how, how
many people will book their cabs and how most of us do our business in general.
You know, maybe five, ten years from now the things that are goin' to happen is that
people are goin' to be using
their phones to hail cabs more frequently.
Uhm... eventually I believe that
the computer in the car will be interacting with the cloud.
I believe that meters will become a thing of the past
uhm... and we'll see more advances in vehicle technology and integration
between cameras; uhm... the ability to look at the data of the vehicles to determine
how accidents occurred and prevent accidents.
I think technologically there's gonna be a lot of advances in... you'd be
surprised. I don't know if we're goin to have
public acceptance in the next ten years for driverless vehicles; ["driverless vehicles?"]
that would'nt be good for the industry, uhm... but I do believe that it's going to be
phones; uh...
there's goin' to be changes to the meter or eradication of
of the meter; uhm... and there's goin to be a lot more data for
regulators and uh... for the industry
to make service even better.
You need to have some good safe, accessible vehicles the right number with a really good dispatch system.
When I was in New York City
one of the big issues was accessibility, and
it's that way around the country in the United States.
The advocates will always say we need
every cab to be accessible and if it makes sense economically
why not? Absolutely. But if it doesn't
there's a very small population uhm... thankfully that of, of, uh...
the overall population that needs the service
try to find the right number of vehicles and have a good dispatch service. That's always
been my philosophy."
