They wanted to take the decisions
but wanted somebody else to take the accountability
I followed it through in a systematic manner
to get the problem dealt with.
They may have found me a bit aggressive but you know what
nothing else was working.
You know putting it in the weekly report didn't work
telling my managers didn't work
telling the directors didn't work.
So if I've gone up far as the directors
and I'm not getting a response
and things are just getting worse
and we've blown up a pipeline
we've got another one floating
we've got another one that's frigging leaking
what do you do? You write a letter to the executive.
I really didn't like the witch hunt very much
that was pretty awful.
I probably wouldn't recommend it if you have family or children
You might want to consider just getting a new job
before you blow the whistle.
I've always been careful with the financial aspect of it
but it's getting to the point where it's devastating now a year on
I never ever anticipated I'd be unemployed this long.
It was quite liberating to speak my mind, I can tell you that
it was, after being put down for that long,
and talking with people after the fact they say
that I really did change some things
so that's a very very positive argument
Whether or not you know the executive wants to admit
the fallacy of their policies in the corrective actions that followed
the point is it changed.
My engineering ring is actually quite different from most engineers
rings because mine's very worn
because I believe engineering is a
very practical sort of thing
if it can't be practical and it can't be truthful
why I carry the symbol of it.
When I went home I was so disgusted with the whole thing
that I just took my ring off and
it still sits in a bowl on the coffee table.
Someday I'll put it back on.
