It seems that the K-pop scene is certainly starting off strong in the new year.
But with such long absences, haven't the artists lost some of their fans?
Perhaps in Korea, because of the ever-changing trends and new K-pop artists that domestic
fans are bombarded with at every turn. But both artists have such strong international
followings that even without a strong response from their fans at home, their albums can
still be considered successes.
Alright. And of course our Music Day wouldn't be complete without finding out what the hottest
K-pop songs are, right?
That's right. Who's hot and who's not for this second week of the new year? Let's find
out by taking a look at this week's edition of the weekly K-pop Top 10.
And kicking off our weekly K-pop Top 10 this week is the track "Lying on Your Lips" by
rock ballad band M.C. the Max, coming in at number ten
Number nine this week is a surprisingly sincere song titled "How Could I Forget You," by the
group Namolla Family N, who were originally comedians.
And still on the charts at number eight is a song from the now-concluded hit drama "Reply
1994" titled "Destiny," which is sung by one of the couples from the drama, Kim Sung-kyun
and Dohee.
At lucky number seven this week is the K-pop veteran Rain, with the lead single, "30Sexy,"
from his latest album, "Rain Effect."
And at number six this week we find another track from M.C. the Max, and this time it
is the song "We, In the Past."
Kicking off the top half of the chart this week at number five is IU with her single
"Friday" featuring Yijeong of History, from her "Epilogue" album, moving down three spots
from last week.
And right up above at number four is -- yet another track from M.C. the Max, titled "Night
We Shine." And stay tuned because they're not quite done yet.
Number three this week is the K-pop girl group Girl's Day, with their sleek and sexy single
"Something."
And the runner-up for the top spot this week is the song "My Destiny" by Lyn, from the
soundtrack of the popular drama "You Who Came from the Stars."
And sitting in the top spot of our weekly K-pop Top 10 is... M.C. the Max once again
with their lead single "Wind that Blows." It's from their seventh studio album "Unveiling,"
which is their first album in five long years
Congratulations to M.C. the Max for their successful comeback after a long hiatus from
the music scene, and to all of the artists who made this week's K-pop Top 10
Another riveting edition of the weekly K-pop Top 10 It seems that ballads are still doing
very well on the charts, and it seems that songs from the soundtracks of popular dramas
are doing well, too.
That's right, and I think the two actually go hand-in-hand, because the music that is
featured in dramas really helps to set the tone of the scene, which is perhaps why audiences
are so drawn to these songs. They remind them of a wonderful scene from their favorite drama.
Alright. Thank you, Tae Ho, for this week's K-pop update and we'll be seeing you again
here tomorrow.
Okay, until tomorrow...
