Hello everybody
First of all, I would like to use this interview to thank the people from Vandal, who have been very kind and patient.
We've been planning it for a whole year, so I would like to talk about where this project goes,
where we would like to be, and which is our main approach.
Most of the projects related to video games have an approach focused on the present.
Some of them talk about classic video games, its creators, points, and interviews to developers, researchers, educators, art...
I tried to grasp a little bit of each topic and at the same time put in my thoughts on all of them,
so as to give a more general and complete view of what video games are and who is the gamers' role as well.
What is the main goal of the project?
Around December 2010, which is when the project started, its goal has been to give a wide view about video games,
and, if possible, from an educational level.
Not just talking about what video games are and why do they exist, but to talk a bit about the people behind them:
gamers, developers, researchers... and how this affects our ordinary life.
After more than two years of making interviews, you would imagine that I have seen almost anything.
I have seen many different people who have talked about their views and about every possible topic.
Unfortunately, I have also realized that launching a project like this is a tremendously difficult task.
Even though I have got more interviewees, the financial crisis has worsened the possibility of funding a project like this.
This made me taking refuge in the idea that, if we are not able to launch everything and turn it into something profitable
so we could pay our collaborators and make a living of it, at least I am going to try to create a high-quality product.
I would like this to be feedbacked, not only for personal satisfaction,
but because we are not able to make a living or money of it at the moment.
What will happen to The Gamer Inside in the following years?
The main idea is to continue working with the project and creating this set of experiences and stories,
while keeping updated our profiles in social networks as much as we can: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Flickr, Google+...
We would also like to collaborate with institutions and independent video game studios,
trying to support the ones with whom we share our philosophy: small things, with taste, and authentic.
Taking into account that I now have around 310 interviews, waiting to be analyzed and told,
the question is how to solve this problem or this dilemma, which is how to take advantage of all that information.
By developing a web application that enables us to work and edit that information, in a fast and easy way,
so in the future we will be able to use such technology to give you the opportunity to access to it
in a comfortable and fast way, easy to show learnt lessons and experiences from the interviewees.
I do think they could be very useful for the people, for you, for the community.
They certainly have been useful to me, and that is why I intend to pass them on you. That's my philosophy.
Which funding channels have you thought of for the project?
About funding... I would like to say that at the beginning, I never thought this project was going to be sold.
I didn't even think it could be sold to mediators. I just wanted it to be something personal.
It would be great if we had the chance to add something to history or to the public archives the Internet is,
to talk about the experiences from gamers, developers and people from many different parts
who can express their opinions meaningfully. We would want to continue with that idea...
Of course, donations and sponsorships will always be more than welcome,
but we want to go on with this project regardless of the money.
This will guarantee us independence and not to be slaves from the pressure that implies working for money.
I want to enjoy the project, because I have always be aware it is really difficult to sell.
Why? Because it is something that belongs to everybody,
which is what I have always been trying to communicate in the available contents.
What will you be doing while The Gamer Inside is not a profitable project?
What will happen to Jesús Fabre, the person who dedicated two years or more of his life
in keeping this going, looking for people...?
My intention is to continue with the project as part of my spare time,
but at the same time supporting it with the knowledge I would acquire in the future, and vice versa.
I would like to work in documentation, something related to communication too,
video games, community manager, public relations and so on.
I learnt a lot in the past two years and I do hope you will enjoy what I am going to do.
Hopefully, all this will result in profits in the following future for this beautiful project named The Gamer Inside.
And that's it. Thank you very much to all of you.
I would like to thank not only you, the fans watching this, but the whole team as well...
Thank you for your participation in this project.
I want you to know that all the work you have done will not be in vain. Everything continues.
All we have to do is focus on it, keep working and plan things carefully, just the way it is going now.
Thanks again. Greetings to everybody.
Thanks to all of you, also to the Vandal community and the community from The Gamer Inside as well.
