Hi, my name is Matt McFail, principal systems engineer for Scale Computing. And I'll be
talking about seven tips for virtualizing your environment.
Number 1: Understand that virtualization is a fundamental change. You aren't simply installing
software or adding a server. Virtualization is a radical change to your environment.
Number 2: Research how the change will benefit your organization. Before you begin, figure
out how cost will be reduced and time saved with virtualization. Number 3: Champion those
benefits to application owners, IT staff, and business owners. These are the people
most affected by virtualization. They will want to know the benefits.
Number 4: After buy in, plan for virtualization. Identify new hardware needs in time to implement
new virtualization software.
Number 5: Virtualize as fast as possible to realize the benefits, but not too fast to
lose management control. Start with ease of virtualize server such asand virtualize fast,
but maintain control over your environment.
Number six, leverage the clustered storage virtualization products to further benefit
server virtualization flexibility. Cluster storage will grow as quickly and as easily
as your server virtualization environment will grow.
Number seven. Communicate the realized benefits. Talk to your boss and key players in your
business about the money and time saved with virtualization. You'll be glad you did.
