Hi this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute. Motorists traveling on sections of
Interstate 65 this summer between Bowling Green and Elizabethtown should be prepared
for potential traffic delays. The summer of 2011 brings with it a series of transportation
projects along the route. Projects in Hardin, Hart and LaRue counties range from reconstruction
and bridge deck restoration to guardrail installation and resurfacing. Motorists should expect
lane closures. Farther south, a project will widen I-65 in sections of Edmonson and Barren
counties. People planning to travel through the area may want to consider alternatives
such as U.S. 31-W or U.S. 31-E. For commercial traffic the suggested detour is via the William
Natcher Parkway or the Wendell Ford Western Kentucky Parkway. Meanwhile, volunteers will
be out in force the week of June Fifth for the Adopt-a-Highway Summer Scrub. Adopt-a-Highway
volunteers help keep Kentucky highways beautiful and litter-free. To find out how your group
can “adopt a highway” or for more information on the program, visit the website on your
screen. This has been your KYTC minute. Visit transportation.ky.gov every Thursday for updated
information.
