DONNA: About six or seven years ago, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, Crohn's disease,
most recently Barrett's esophagus and plaque psoriasis. Those are all autoimmune diseases
that are a direct relation to the diabetes. I'm Donna McCafferty. I'm 58 years old.
During the first few years of my illnesses, I was with a different provider, and I had
a lot of difficulty getting my claims paid and getting the care that I needed when I
needed it. I switched about seven years ago and became a Blue Cross Blue Shield member.
It was more of a personal choice. I did a lot of research on the companies that were
provided to me, and Blue Cross Blue Shield had the best package, the best plan for me.
About two years ago, Blue Cross Blue Shield offered me an opportunity to join the care
management program and have one person who I can work with directly on my medical conditions,
who I can go to when I have questions, when I have concerns, and that person will advocate
for me, get me of the list of the names of doctors, or remind me when I need to go in
for an eye exam or a blood test or whatever it is I need, so I don't have to worry about
those things. I can't say enough about the program. It's
given me everything that I've needed. Blue Cross Blue Shield has been a great insurance
provider. To me, being a Blue Cross Blue Shield member is like having a first class ticket
to health care. It's no longer being in coach, no longer having to worry about what's going
to happen and when it's going to happen. It's just been a really great experience, and I
don't worry anymore.
