We had a participant, his benefit had been stopped
because he hadn't returned some paperwork.
And when he called, I got him, an incoming call,
and he was very upset.
I explained to him
what it would take to get his benefit reinstated
and how he'd go about it
and I could get him in touch with the administrative office.
But I kept hearing him being stressed
about something other than his money.
I mean, it's hard to describe, but this man was near tears.
And I kept saying, "Well... what is it that I...
"Is there something else I can help you with?
Is there something I can do for you today?"
And he goes, "Well, unless you can feed my dogs.
I have three dogs and they haven't eaten in a week."
And I said, "You know what?
I think I can help you with that."
I went on the Internet and I looked for pet stores
in his vicinity, and I cold-called one
and I just explained the situation.
This poor man is a retiree, his dogs hadn't eaten,
and could he give them some food?
And he said, "Yeah, just tell him to come in
and this is my name."
So I called this gentleman back and I said,
"I need you to go to this address,
ask for this young man and he's going to hand you food."
And he didn't believe me.
He called me back that afternoon and he was crying.
And he said, "They gave me six months of food."
He says, "Do you guys do this all the time?"
And I said, "If we can help you in some aspect
and make it better, that's what we're here for."
Prudential has always been so nurturing.
My mom worked for Prudential for 28 years.
I grew up knowing about Prudential
and I think that we've got a good reputation.
And I think we've got great people working for us.
And as long as we remember that,
I don't think anything's going to beat us.
I really don't.
