Hi! This is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village, and I'm here to talk to you about
doing the hair for your David Bowie costume. Now, for the hair you have 2 basic options.
One thing you can do is actually grow a mullet, spike it, and spray paint it for the occasion
or actually dye it. I don't think this is a very good idea unless you're really into
having mullet. Your second option is to get a wig. This is the wig that I've selected.
I got it at a costume store. it wasn't very expensive; about 20 dollars, maybe a little
less. The wig works for several reasons. One is that it's a basic 70s mullet with a spike
at the top. Comes down here down to your shoulders and the color is right. David Bowie's hairstyle
for the Ziggy Startdust stuff involved either red hair or purple like this, and in a few
occasions blonde. If you want to stand out don't do blonde. Either do red or get a shiny
purple like this. Putting on the wig is not the most fun thing in the world. You want
to make sure that none of your actual hair is showing, so if you have longish hair like
me you want to tuck it in. You want to adjust the wig to make sure it sits on your head
just right. And there you have early 1970s glam rock hair. Now, if you have long hair,
one thing you can do is tie it back and keep it in a hairnet. That'll keep it from dragging
out, which occasionally it's going to fall out. That makes things a lot easier. You don't
have to worry about checking in the mirror to make sure that you don't have any dark
hairs popping out of the purple.
