Health Cooperation Mobile Clinics in Karamoja
Moroto District Mobile Clinic at Lokeriat
Lokeriaot is far 43 km from Moroto Hospital.
I am Okerenyang Patrick
one of the drivers of Italian Cooperation
Italian Cooperation has given us health services, health support
to the hard-to-reach areas.
Karamoja is one of the most disadvantaged place in the country.
About 500 children die every month
for unpreventable diseases.
and Italian Cooperation gives support to this now.
I am a nurse from Moroto Hospital
and I have come to do immunization
in Lokeriaot Village.
I immunized about ten children
then deworming they are over 150.
I am Ongonya Mark Dyeka
a laboratory assistand of
Nadunget health center III.
Here we do *** counselling/testing for the pregnant mothers,
PMTCT: prevention of mother to child trasmission
Like now they are mothers already for PMCT, they are waiting in the line.
Antenatal Care
Portiamo queste cliniche mobili ai villaggi.
helped by Italian Cooperation
which is giving us more services.
Now they have brought even the scanning machine
to improve our work in the field.
It can identify so many complications, and they can be referred to the hospital to be treated
So, we are now not only palpating the women,
but we are doing even the scanning maching.
So, when we are doing this and the mother sees what excatly is inside her
we shall even encourage them to come and delivery in the hospital
and then the risks, the problems which are always closed to the villages are reduced.
-What's your name?
-Maria
-Maria look, look here you can see the head of your baby
-look, it's here, it's this one..
So, with the use of this scanning machine
these women will be very happy
to continue with the antenatal and they will be encouraged to come and delivery in the hospital.
This machine is very important
so the mother
can see how the baby is lying in the abdomen.
and that's when the complications can be seen
and be managed accordingly.
Through this we encourage mothers
to go and delivery in the health facilities
where such machines are located
and where we have trained the health workers, allocated.
So, it's very very important that mothers in Karamoja region
start going to health facilities to receive such services.
It's only 17% of the pregnant women
that come to delivery in the health facilities.
Most of them like to delivery at home
and most of them come to antenatal just to see how the baby is lying
and how she is, then they like to delivery in the village .
Because now the number is increased to 28%, of the mothers has come to delivery to the health facilities
because of these services are given to them.
The Lokeriaot area population has been estimated as about 1.100.
