Erik: How has your brother’s support and encouragement made you better at what you
do?
Mark: In numerous ways. My brother is a music writer. He’s the pop music critic at the
Detroit News, as well as a freelance writer about music. I think my brother is a tremendously
talented writer, in fact way better than I am and will ever be. He’s got a really great
voice and I think the thing that really sort of connects us is in this realm is we’re
both our greatest supporters and our greatest critics. I feel like we’re always patting
each other on the back with a job well done but because we’ve been so close and we have
such a great relationship we also have the ability to feel like we can give each other
criticism when it’s necessary. If something that I wrote went on too long or if maybe
he’s not – if he could work a little bit harder in terms of getting the word out about
his stories through Facebook and Twitter and blogging and things like that. I feel like
we’ve got a real – an incredible report and mutual admiration and respect for each
other as friends and as brothers and as people in the same industry. So, we work a lot together
on ideas for projects and ways we can touch things and we’re always constantly talking
about what’s going on in the pop-culture world.
