In this short video, I'm going to show you how to export your calendar from Moodle. You
can then use that export file to bring all of your Moodle events into another calendar
that you might like using; oh, for instance, a calendar with Gmail or a calendar in some
other program that you like using.
Now, I'm going to start in this course I'm teaching called CIS221. It doesn't matter
which course you choose; just go to any course that you're teaching and scroll down until
you get to the calendar block. Here it is. I'm going to click the name of the month and
that will open this calendar up in a full screen view, which is what I want. Now, when
I scroll down you'll note that I've got a few events here for the students in my Moodle
calendar.
Now, there are two ways to export a calendar. I can click this button that says "Export
Calendar" and when I do that Moodle's going to give me some options for my export. I can
export all events or just events related to courses. I can also export a certain timeframe;
oh, for example, just this month's activities, and click export.
However, for this tutorial, I'm going to choose a little different method. So let me back
up one screen; and I'm going to instead click this "iCal" button. Now, when I do that Moodle
will automatically export everything out of my calendar, stick it in a single file called
"iCal Export." I'll save that file and it's done.
Now, the next thing I'll do is open up my Google calendar. This is it, it's pretty empty.
I'll click over here for "Settings" and open the "Settings" box. I'll do the settings for
calendars; and I've created a calendar called "Moodle Classes." Right now that calendar
is empty because I just now created it for this video; and I want to import a calendar.
So, Firefox asks me where is my calendar to import and I want to look for that file that
I just created -- oh it was called iCal -- iCal -- H -- there it is iCal export ICS. I'll
open that up and I want to put that into this "Moodle Classes" calendar and import -- and
it processed 35 events. It didn't take very long and close that.
So now when I go back to my calendar. I should be able to see; well, there's one right there.
This was in my Moodle calendar. Oh, for example next week on Thursday night, you'll see a
number of different events in the Moodle calendar that now appear here in my Gmail calendar.
That's about it for this video. This is a way for you to share your Moodle calendar
with your Gmail calendar if you like using that particular program.
Good luck with your classes; and, remember, help is only a phone call or click away.
