How's it going guys? I just wanted to turn on the camera for a minute day. I've just
been thinking about, that crazy concept of distance. And what difference it makes when
distance becomes this tangible thing. When you can literally point somewhere out there
to the south and let's just say I'm pointing at a pillow on my bed. Approximately, I can
approximately do that. But what's really making me think today is what difference that makes
when things become so tangible. In general, what we're talking about today is... "It's
a small world", that's the saying right? Well, yes and no. It's so dependent on how you actually
talk about distance, whether it becomes this tangible thing, for example, looking out there
and seeing no more than as far as I can point. Or whether you talk about it in numbers. I
can say, "from Australia it takes me 7 hours on an aeroplane to land here in Japan". By
the way I'm in Izukyu Shimoda which is on the Izu peninsula which is a really cool place.
But yeah, looking out there it's just really making me think about the saying and how,
if you dropped me here, let's say, 1000 years ago (and aeroplane travel wasn't around),
I could not swim home, I could not raft home. My concept of distance would go no further
than as far as I can extend my arm and point my finger. That is the entirety of my comprehension
of distance 1000 years ago. So that is an enormous world! Today we're living in such
a small world. This is a pretty quiet place, I can feel pretty alone out here. It's kind
of why I came here, it's been a really interesting journey, just to explore things myself a little
bit. But yeah that's what I've been thinking about today. Do you ever think about that?
Have you ever been in a place where you've thought about that. When, all of a sudden,
distance becomes this tangible thing. You look at a map, it's all numbers, you talk
about flight times and that's not real. I mean, that to me is what represents a mastery
of distance. If I can say that it takes me 7 hours on an aeroplane, then that's like
that human control over something. You can control distance, and that's what makes the
world small. It's this mastery of distance. But all of a sudden I feel like I could be
in that kind of space where that doesn't exist. It's a little bit philosophical. But that's
what I've been thinking about today. If you do have any interesting similar stories, I'd
love to hear them. We can have a bit of a conversation in that comment section down
there. The air is nice out here, I am quite enjoying myself. If you are having a wonderful
day, let me know, if you are not, please have a wonderful day, wherever you are in this...
This enormous, enormous, small world. I'll see you guys on the next video. Thanks for
hanging out with me today, I'll see you very soon. Bye.
