-The goal of my pictures is really
to give a human face to conflict, like seeing, like,
in some of these pictures a little girl, or a little boy.
And it humanizes the entire conflict.
I've been to a lot of highly politicized places.
What we think of as due process here,
it doesn't exist in much of the world,
and especially inside the military courts.
-The summer after my very first year of law school,
with the help of the IHRP, I boarded a plane for Tanzania.
And when I arrived, at night, in a city with almost
no paved roads and even fewer streetlights in an unmarked UN
van complete with armed guard, I could not
have been more excited.
-It was an amazing experience.
I had the opportunity to draft a professional level report
and experience how it was launched, and work in Mexico.
And in fact, I'm now working in human rights
from a small village outside of Nairobi,
who have all been the victims of child ***.
Or they call it defilement.
The 160 girls' litigation is an opportunity
to hold the government of Kenya accountable for failing
to protect these girls, and also to shape
the quality of jurisprudence of Kenya.
-I entered in Palestine with an organization called Addameer.
It's a Palestinian political prisoners' rights group.
So a lot of the work I did there was with child prisoners, as
well as adult prisoners who are being
held in administrative detention.
-What drew me to it is I had a longstanding interest
in human rights law, and I wanted to have the opportunity
to pursue it in a way that had practical applicability,
and that would allow me to develop experience that
could assist me in working in this area professional
when I became a lawyer.
-300 interns in the field over the last 25 years
is an amazing accomplishment.
I also think that some of the legal work we've done
has been groundbreaking.
-I just think that this program is astonishing.
A human rights program in a law school
tells you a great deal about what law has always been about.
-Really, it's just incredible.
I mean, you put yourself, heart and soul, into a project.
And to see the impact that it's having is so satisfying.
Really.
