Host: It's one thing to go on a diet, but it's another to have
a major lifestyle change.
This is a diet for-EVER.
Host: You change your lifestyle. That's what Big Budah is trying to do at Gold's Gym.
He's got his weight loss challenge kicking off right now.
Big Budah: Right now Dan, I think about other lifestyle changes
that probably would be easier for me.
I'm just saying.
This hour, we're going to talk about
exercise. I had foot surgery
and haven't been able to exercise. I just don't know what too do because
it's been so long.
Mark is going to walk us through what we need to get started.
Take the mic. What is the first step? What do I need to do?
Mark MacDonald: You stabilize blood sugar by the way you're going to eat.
Your nutrition releases your stored fat.
The goal with the exercise is to recruit as much muscle fibre
as possible.
Big Budah: You're a bit too intense for the mic. You're even louder than I am!
Mark: Sorry. So the goal is to recruit as much muscle as possible
so you burn that fat up. By walking on a treadmill,
you're going to recruit many more muscle fibres.
We put it on an incline. Big Budah: I did not agree!
Mark: This is fat-burning cardio, so no holding onto the handles.
Shoulders back.
You want to activate your core. Stand up!
Big Budah: Oh, it's activated. I can feel it.
Mark: It's good to work out smarter, not harder. By walking on an incline,
not out of breath, you're going to activate your red muscle
and burn fat in the majority of your muscle fibres.
Big Budah: I'm already out of breath.
Mark: Ok, so then we slow down the speed a little bit.
We'll lower the incline. You just want to start easy.
We're going to get Big Budah moving,
get him walking.
Big Budah: Is this the case for anyone starting off a workout regement?
Mark: Yes, anyone starting off. If you are getting going, you just need to start walking
and moving. As you get more and more fit,
you're going to be able to burn more fat, and your conditioning will grow.
If you're out of breath, you have to slow down the pace
We don't want you winded when you're doing fat-burning cardio.
When you're out of breath, you aren't burning fat.
Big Budah: Let's go try something else, like riding a bike.
Mark: We'll be right back. We're going to do some high-intensity
cardio next. Host: I think Budah found a task master.
See you, B.
