My name is Jessica Bonner
and I'm a librarian working at Croydon Library.
Libraries are staying relevant with this current surge of technology
by catering to the needs of people and their lifestyles.
Technology hasn't necessarily
made a librarian's job easier or harder.
It's just made it different.
One of the most interesting audiences
that we are seeing taking advantage of library services
are the Baby Boomer generation.
The reason for this is
we see that genealogy is very popular amongst this age group
and a lot of our services and resources are online.
We provide a range of services from engaging with our older residents
and introducing them to some of the new technologies that are out there,
including ways they can engage with their councils,
through to ensuring how younger people understand some of the risks
that are presented by social media.
We manage online safety in public spaces
by, one, practicing safe internet ourselves
by making sure people's details are private when we're away.
And also we encourage our users to practice safe internet practices
by keeping their details private as well.
