Neil welcome back to the program Gregory read it on
it's great having him I you you you're a big fan of guns
II you know I'll I like guns for for target practice I Los
skeet shooting those nasty Skeets I mean they they deserve to get it right
and and a *** very practice but I've
I've never shot anything that was living nor or wanted to or even at anything
that was living
um but I you know i i it seems that we have a difference of opinion here on
whether or not
teenagers should be allowed to buy guns EA
how many states first was this this this is a state matter to federal level
matter is it not well I think right now it's so I
its still at the state level our because we
you know obviously go we're trying to bring national reciprocity for concealed
carry it yes state to state to state I
that sorta but start for a number of reasons that we probably shouldn't go
into but right now is that the state's and the
you know the NRA is trying to speak up for the rights have
teenagers to have their gun rights restored so how many
how many states don't allow somebody under 21 to buy a gun and how many
states don't allow someone under 21
2009 or carry a gun in situations like
on Tina arm and and then and then finally how many states don't allow our
target shooting
and finally how many states don't allow someone under 21
to even possess a gun under any circumstances I don't have those in
front of me
okay I'm pretty sure that the last category 0
right yeah it does I i know im George I took you know I took my kids to a
shooting range when they were like
10 10 boys town anyway so
they allow that your
states like Vermont where basically your constitution is your permit
and then your yep like New York in 2010 I worked a little bit more restrictive
okay so why
it why the campaign what is it that you guys are trying to do particular
you can understand time that dire the the
teenage gang bangers are terrorists to don't really go through legal means to
to get their firearms in their handguns but there are teenagers who were
credo why carry for russia to to protect themselves are or their families are
they feel that their life is in danger
or for a for target practice and competitive things
and %uh there's really no reason why these teenagers
shouldn't be allowed to have a handgun I certainly if you go around any the
country roads in this country
you'll see your children of all ages carrying long gone so we certainly
tri-star
children with it with long kinda handgun is
short long gone right well yes and no I'm
gas in that most to the states that ban gun purchases by people under 21
are doing so for the reason that you described they're trying to keep the
Monahans gang-bangers
and I but if somebody's in a gang
in in an inner-city and that you know and there is no
recreational facility in there is no employment opportunity for them in their
schools socks and you know all the things that are the consequences if 32
years a break in omics
on why would you say that as long as they're not engage in criminal activity
day should not have the exact same right
as you're sweet white a.m. high school valedictorian
18-year-old to her 17-year-old to carry to own a gun why
mine up I'm I have no problem with
I you're probably gang-bangers a carrot seven guns that they
like there is in danger but they're not using a for criminal activity I have no
issue with them
so
really are saying that but but you have to understand tonics you think throwing
it where but there are people who don't follow the laws
and they buy their guns out through the black market her and our
gang-bangers in Paris seem to have better access to that than the sweet
whites that you were talking about earlier
yeah I was I was being sarcastic a bit the
could be. the the he barely missed it
the the point that I'm making I guess is that
a gun is 8 is a piece of equipment that had that was
that is designed with one purpose in mind and that is to be
a very very efficient way to cause the end of the life
up some living thing whether it's a gun design for hunting I whether it's a
disease
a gun designed for military use or whether it's a gun designed for self
defense
or for concealed carry they're designed to be able to kill somebody and if and
if you don't have the threat have been able to kill somebody you could argue
and
many gun advocates do that it wouldn't even be a effective self defense tool
do we really wanna say in a country where we say that if you're under 21
you're still sufficiently I mean
especially given what we know about neuroscience now that the frontal brain
doesn't even
complete its development till around 22 or 23 years old
the part of the brain that inhibits behaviors that you really want to say
that we're not going to let you drink
because we know that you're not a fully developed adult
but we are going to let you carry around something they can kill other people
well i mean i I get the short answer is I
you know i i deployed to Iraq in there were many your
there even 17-year-old but there are certainly a tunnel 1820
it now 19-year-old where you are are every day as a fully armed society both
inside and outside the wire
and and you know there really weren't any they work you know obviously there
european sense from time to time every year so but they weren't the kind of
issues that
said that you would make you worry and I I interacted with those people all the
time
I you know I think that what I think after work to watch out for
is that there are you know somebody who has your own eighteen-year-old who has a
handgun because he feels his life is in danger
if he gets charged you note that illegal could be now has a gun charge on his
record
and that does that put him at all that put some really behind the eight ball
for the rest of his life
when when the guy just want to defend himself or his family
are Iran if there's a fifteen year old kid on the street
who feel that his life is in danger are I would want him to have the right to
protect is that the constitution doesn't say
we have an obligation to be victims so you think that fifteen-year-old should
be able to carry around weapons have
mass destruction well I think that time
obviously there will be parents involved in that decision white guy
but but other than that I I really don't have an issue with it
I mean it's our you like in the town I grew up in
you know people had you know kids in my high school had guns all the time and I
went hunting and whatnot Alice make it clear this is all
what we're describing here as a worst-case scenario what I'm describing
is worse case scenario you described as a best case scenario which is unlimited
unfettered access to guns to everybody regardless of age
on a pretty much any circumstances including carrying them I can see %ah
basis
is simply the law in the state of Vermont but it is very much not the law
in other states and
and I you know I and that's all fine with me by the way I'm a big supporter
of states
and cities being able to come up with their own
laws but you don't want states and cities to be able to come up with their
own laws
about who can carry a weapon a new can't do have a right now I'm all for
I'm I want the government to prevent states you want you want the government
to prevent states
from from Bay essentially doing what they consider is the best thing to
protect their own people
I guess what I'm saying is that guy
I would always tend to be on the side of freedom and I don't wanna pre we don't
treat
we don't replenish crimes and somebody is
if somebody does a crime with a handgun you're low on R you also on the side of
democracy
under some severely are you also on the side of democracy now
small the democracy on are you also on the side of democracy a fav
you know that the what the majority electorate wants the majority electric
gets
well obviously I'm four-square behind
democracy tom was obviously protections for a
sewing already why do you want to take me out and that's a gimmick why do you
want to take away the freedom I love individual states to decide on a
democratic basis
who should know should never got because we serve thirty think that because the
14th amendment
for federal government have to accept and because state can always be trusted
to protect our freedom
which we yeah which which so you youth I so this is equal protection are given
your mind
I live long enough to go to 14th amendment with you
