>>MARTIN O'MALLEY (GOVERNOR): For 25 years,
the University System of Maryland has been moving
our state forward.
Since 1988, nearly 577,000 degrees have been awarded
by University System schools.
Last year, USM generated $1.2 billion in research
and development grants.
Four University System of Maryland schools now rank
among the top 100 best values among public higher
education.
Thanks to the growth of these universities,
Maryland has one of the most educated work forces
in the country.
Thanks to the work done in labs in classrooms every
day, our state was named by the U.S.
Chamber of Commerce the #1 state in America for
innovation and entrepreneurship.
As we celebrate these milestones, our commitment
to higher education has never been more solid.
We're continuing to invest in Maryland's colleges and
universities, and we're doing more than any other
state in the nation to make college more
affordable for more families.
Together, we're working to increase completion rates
and we're expanding science, technology,
engineering and math, cyber and health programs
as well at USM schools.
Congratulations on 25 great years.
Together, we can make the next 25 even greater.
Thanks a lot.
