A bullet camera is a very small, bullet shaped camera generally used in surveillance. They
are best suited for low profile monitoring and are often found in undercover operations.
This is because, unlike dome or fixed boxed cameras, bullet security cameras can be easily
hidden in interesting places. They are also often known as lipstick cameras. The tend
to only have a low range of focal length (generally between two and two and a half inches), which
means the viewing angle can be really limited. Think first what it will be used for and what
are the features needed.. If you want to buy a lipstick camera, you
need to think about what you will be using it for and what sort of features you expect
from the camera. These issues will also greatly influence the price you will pay. For instance,
you may be looking for bullet cameras that also have infrared properties. These cameras
are particularly suited for night vision recording. Some other models have a bigger range (up
to twenty feet), making them more suitable to monitor a driveway or entrance for instance.
However, these types of features do make the camera more expensive.
Consider underwater recording.. If you are looking for a particularly snazzy
bullet camera, you could consider one that is even able to record underwater. Waterproof
bullet security cameras can go as deep as 100 feet (30.5 m) under water, where the pressure
is quite high. These are great for scuba divers, but also for marine applications. For instance,
an underwater zoo may want to use these cameras to monitor the behavior of some of the fish
within the aquarium. Again, however, these cameras are far more expensive.
So, think long and hard about what you want a lipstick camera for..
Many people, for instance, would buy one as a nanny cam, to monitor the behavior of those
who care for their children. Often, however, these people think that the cheapest cam will
do, since their nannies mainly operate during the day. However, there may be situations
during which your nanny is working when its dark and you will not be able to see anything
unless you have the IR properties included. Consider the viewing angle..
The most important thing to consider, however, is the viewing angle. It tends to be very
limited on bullet cameras, so you do need to consider just how much you hope to see
with them. They are great to enter covert operations where you are in direct contact
with the subject, but they are not the best to monitor security in your entire garden
for instance. Thank you for watching!
