Hi, Heidi Thorne, and today we're going to answer some comments that we got
from a subscriber. I don't even know if I really want to call it comments.
It was more of a frustration about setup charges for promotional products.
A setup charge is the cost to actually set up your order. It can include a
lot of different things. It depends on the supplier, what they roll into
that. It could include maintenance on the machine. It could include the
labor cost for their personnel to set up the machine. It could include
inking charges. Just a lot of different things get rolled into that.
If you see a product description that says "no setup charges," it's not
that there is no setup cost. It's just that those costs are rolled into the
price of the promotional product in some other way.
Now the actual charges that get assessed depend on how complex your
particular project is. A standard ink-type imprint is relatively
inexpensive. But as the handling of the material or the product increases,
such as for debossed leather or glass etch or engraving, the cost can
increase quite a bit. When you're going way custom, such as custom
chocolate molds, your cost could run into the hundreds of dollars.
It's not going to go away anytime soon, and you really do need to budget
for it when you are planning your next promotional product project. So keep
that it in mind.
That's today's tip, and again I am Heidi Thorne for Promo With Purpose
Today.
