This is your movie minute for Friday August 21st 2015 - so you can be in the know, on
the go! Looks like Christian Bale is trading in the keys to his Batmobile for a Ferrari!
Hmm, is that an upgrade or a downgrade? Hard to tell... Let's pop this Ferrari's hood shall
we? Turns out this is a passion project for director Michael Mann, and will be one of
those "defining moment" biographies. This movie will take place in 1957, the year a
horrific racing accident led to Enzo Ferrari - whom Bale will play - being charged with
manslaughter. Ferrari will be shopped around to distributors during this year's festival
circuit, and one has to wonder how many laps it will have to do considering Bale and Mann's
last team up was mediocre at best. Not to mention, can anyone really top fellow racing
pic Rush? You were robbed, Rush, you were robbed! Then, while Ferrari might be a tough
sell, surely Universal is shocked that directing Fifty Shades Darker is an equally tough sell.
As a result, it looks like they've REALLY had to scrape the bottom of the barrel. In
fact, one could argue that James Foley is on the UNDERSIDE of the barrel, having only
directed 1992 Glengarry Glen Ross, 1996's Fear and 2007's Perfect Stranger. He also
has directed episodes of House of Cards and...Wayward Pines. What's more, EL James own husband is
the only one the fan fiction author will approve to write the script. Hmm, has Universal stayed
at this S&M party too long, and only the desperate weirdos are left. Finally, Forbes has released
its list of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood and - no surprise here - Jennifer
Lawrence is number one. Yes, Katniss is actually more Capitol than District 12, earning fifty-two
million in 2014 alone. Scarlet Johansson is number two with thirty-five point five million,
and Melissa McCarthy comes in third with twenty-three million. And it's worth noting that these
big paychecks aren't just from movies, but cobbled together with the addition of brand
endorsements and, for McCarthy, a TV sitcom. Damn, they DO work hard for the money! And
that's your movie minute! For more in-depth coverage on these stories and more, be sure
