The Blacksmith's Workshop
This workshop is the heritage of our grandparents
and our parents.
Today, we are the ones that work here.
It was founded by Dethie Lo.
He came to join his uncle here, in Notto.
Which uncle?
Ali Matar Thiam.
So then it was he who founded the workshop?
Ali Matar Thiam didn't work with iron,
he was more focused on his Koranic studies.
When he came here, he appealed to Dethie So
and he asked for his niece in marriage.
Her name was Fatou Seck Thiam.
It was Dethie who taught my father the trade.
Dethie Lo came from Mbattal, to Cayor,
to join his uncle Ali Matar Ndiaye.
The Thiams, all smiths, came.
So you see how they founded this workshop.
So this workshop is a vestige of the village.
