Joining me to discuss the latest in politics
is Labour Party MP, Shane Jones.
How do you think the Urewera case will end - guilty or not guilty?
I think the Police force
doesn't want to see their million dollar investigation wasted.
In time, a decision will be made but I don't think
it's appropriate for a politician to make a comment on this matter
that's currently before the courts.
Maybe tomorrow the jury will make a discussion as the whether
the accused are guilty or not.
Workers protesting from the Auckland ports,
Affco and retirement homes, what should they do?
It seems there is a storm brewing.
When we were in government,
we didn't experience any major issues that resulted
in cutbacks and job losses.
I think workers are scared the government
will overpower the unions.
Some employers want to minimise their employees' wages
and many of them are Maori.
We need to be careful because these changes
could impact our families and result in a move across the ditch.
That's the problem isn't it?
Because many of the workers affected are Maori.
Definitely, if your qualifications are limited, then so are
your options and it's those types of jobs that get cutbacks.
When Labour was in government, we didn't see many cutbacks.
Certainly, options were plentiful
and people utilised what was on offer.
Today's government has lifted the cost on food,
property prices have raised and it's impacting everywhere.
Our homes in the rural areas of the North and East Coast
are abandoned because our families are moving to Sydney.
Shane Jones, thank you for your time.
