I used to have a large house complete with all utilities.
Sadly, we find ourselves living here in a shack during winter
after the recent floods here in Manatí.
We are having to work hard, really hard
but thanks to God who gives us strength we continue ahead,
yet we still suffer. And we are tired of suffering so.
Today we don't even have a glass of water to drink.
The water truck has not come by to distribute water. It comes by every eight days.
And food...
We need food, sleeping pads, toiletries, water tanks.
We have to get water with two or three buckets, because there are no water tanks.
We were left with nothing. We lost it all.
We've been in this for two and a half months.
We need clothes, as well.
Clothes, because we have nothing.
Why do I say "everything," because we need everything.
Everything, because no one is really helping as they should.
The government at this moment has not shown its face.
We were promised when Manatí flooded that we would
be out of our home for maximum a month or month and a half.
It's been nearly four months since we left in November...early December
and we are still suffering.
We were a family dependent on our business.
But our biggest need is that the government get rid of the water so we can return to our homes.
Also, that they realize that it is not easy living in these shelters.
It's very hot and uncomfortable.
It's not easy what we are going through.
We want to speak out and get the word to the entire world
through the Internet,
that Manatí is in a terrible situation.
Absolutely terrible.
