Matthew 5:5 says, that blessed are the meek … the meek
Ever stopping wonder
what that word really means?
meek
If you look it up in thedictionary
you'll find that it means
lowly
submissive, humble
oppressed suppressed
it's not a very
positive word in today's
society
But you know, I had someone tell me once
to think about
a broken horse
when you think of meek
think of a broken horse
and that would give you
a pretty good idea as to what
the word meek means iin Matthew 5:5
When you think of a broken horse
you think of a horse
that's spirit has been broken
I uh... went
on a trip
many years ago to Utah
and um... there was this
place called Dead Horse Point
and um... it was a it's a canyon land where the canyon is surrounding a
plateau and that flat plateau was in a circular shape and there was a uh...
narrow passage way from the mainland to
the um
plateau the circular part
And at the
narrow part
they built a gate.
and what the horsemen would do was round up all these wild horses and they
would bring them in and kind of
herd them through
this gate
and onto this plateau and they closed the gate
and the horses
uh... they were packed in there like sardines
and uh... they were
not fed
they were not given water
and this is desert land mind you
and
they would
kick and buck
and fight one another
until they were exhausted and once they have reached that exhaustion
breaking point
that's when the cattlemen would come in
take the horses out saddle them up
and teach them how to
ride
unfortunately though
some of the horses
there will was too strong
and they would topple over
the sides of the plateau into the canyon
and uh... some of them would stand there looking at that
at the water
uh... that uh... the river in the distance and die of thirst
literally plunging themselves over the edge to reach that water
and
so it wasn't a very positive
positive thing to break a horse
um...
then there were the cattlemen the horsemen if you want to
call them that would tie
a wild horse to a post uh... it would fight against this post and
the ropes and
uh... it would kick can and punch
and just
exhausts itself
again
until it's spirit was broken
and that's at the point when the horsemen would put the saddle on
and ride the horse
that
type of submission
is due to dominance
man
dominated those animals
i don't believe
that's what God means
in Matthew 5:5 blessed
are the meek
the meek in that situation
I don't believe God
is dominating
uh... he's not breaking my spirit
to uh... to follow him to submit myself to him
But, in today's
training
of course is it's not called breaking a horse anymore it's called training
a horse
The horsemen
will
take step-by-step
in building a relationship
with that horse
the first thing he will do
is acknowledge
the horse
and the horse will know his presence he will
stroke the horse
he will bathe the horse, he will brush the horse, he will
talk in a very soft gentle voice
to that horse
and the horse responds
and he moves it into putting the harness on the horse and
then a little bit further along
he will walk the horse with the harness on him
the whole time being reassuring being uh...
loving and caring
to the point where this horse
has complete trust
in the horseman. And then
eventually we're talking days, month maybe even a year or so
then the horseman will actually put a blanket on that horse
and then the saddle
and then finally his own weight
the whole time
building a relationship with that horse
that's the kind
of submission
that God is doing
He woos me He talks to me and gently
He nudges us He encourages us
He loves us the whole time we're building this relationship with trust
and love and respect
to be honest with you
the true horsemen
who has a horse that horse
is his life
and that horse means the world to him
and vice versa that horse would do anything will go
through the war zone
with it's owner
because of the loyalty and the love and the bonding there
that's what
uh... Matthew 5:4 means
blessed are those who are meek
it's not a weakness
it's not a dominance
it's a relationship
built with trust and love
and yes
to be meek
is to be blessed
God bless
