Hey! So, big question for you. Why is doing a trial GAMSAT a bad idea?
I get this a lot. A lot of people do it as a trial just to get a feel for the
exam, to see what it's like and that is a terrible, unfortunately, a terrible idea
and I'll tell you why in a sec. But I'm just going to wait a minute to get and
give it some time to let some more people join us here on this live.
Now, if you have any questions about what I'm talking about type them down at the
bottom or if you like what I'm talking about hit the like button share it with
your friends. This is going to, this concept is going to change a lot for you
if you've been thinking about doing the trial GAMSAT and yeah a lot of people
do that and it's unfortunate. Every single year I hear people 'oh I did it as
a trial just to see what would happen. Well, I'm doing this one as a trial and
I'm taking it seriously the next time. And here's what happens right it's
just the trial so it doesn't really matter so you don't really give it a
hundred percent. You don't give your preparation everything it requires
and if you're going to do well for this for the games that you need to prepare a
lot and give it a lot so what happens is just the trial doesn't really matter but
of course you know you'll do your best and I hear that a lot of people say
they'll do their best but it's just the trial so really doesn't really matter so
they don't really give it everything that's required and so then they get
into the GAMSA and because they didn't give it everything that's
required they then get a very good score and the and then what happens I when you
get them your score back they don't give you any feedback it's not like they told
you 'hey, section one you need to work on this. Essays, here's some feedback.
Section three, work on this'. You get zero feedback at all so you have no
indication as to what you actually need to be working on what you got
wrong, what you got right, what's what you're struggling with. Zero
feedback indication of what you need to be doing so you're in the same position
as before except now you've spent hundreds of dollars on the exam. You've
wasted all this time and you're sitting there looking at this result going 'How
am I going to increase my score by twenty five points? Is it even possible?'
and then all these questions start to come into your mind. Can I do this? Is it
possible for me? Am I good enough? Can this actually be increased? How am I
going to do this? Is this a sign? should I give up now? And it's really a difficult
place to be in because it really knocks you around and really knocks a lot of
people down and they're sitting there going 'My god! can I actually do this? And
a lot of people don't do it. Don't do it again or if they do they feel terrible
about it and they need to work their way up and they're still the same
place they were before and but I understand why people do it. I understand
why people do the GAMSAT as a trial and there's a couple of reasons why.
Number one is that a lot of people out there over commit recommending it now
they're saying 'Oh! An average people do it twice so you should do it a couple times
and then take it serious. If you don't intend to do it at 100% don't do it at
all. Save yourself the money. Do a, get one of the ACER practice papers. Do it at home
under exam conditions. You get more feedback that way. You'll see which
questions you got wron,g what you've got right, what you need to be working on. You
get a feel for the exam you know. You get a lot more impact. So there's no point,
people were recommending and doing it it's not a great suggestion because it
it just, unless you're giving it a 100%, don't bother. Do it at home. You're gonna
save yourself a whole lot of money and a whole lot of heartache.
So people are suggesting a part and some people listening and go 'You
know what maybe I should do it because really I don't, I don't know if I can do
it. They're wandering looking at this exam going 'You know what
it's really difficult. I've heard all these horror stories, people who are
seem really smart. They seem even smarter than me at uni and they
mess it up. What chance do I have? So I'm just gonna do this one as a trial to see
what or I don't really know I'm just gonna
test out the waters and then do it seriously the next time because I'm not
quite confident. I'm not quite sure if I can actually do this or not and I don't
know how. I don't know how to prepare for it. I don't know what I should be doing. How so that I get the best result possible. So you end up just going 'Oh, I'm
just gonna do it as a trial just get a feel for it and like I said earlier that
never goes well because if you don't prepare adequately for it. You're not
gonna give it everything you've got and if you don't give it, this xam
100%, it's not going to go very well. You get zero feedback and you're in
a worse position because you've spent all this money and you're feeling
crushed and wondering is this proof? Does this mean I can't do this? Is there
something wrong with me? All this stuff goes through your mind when, instead, you
could be focusing on getting it right the first time. Why not get it right the
first time? That's my approach and a lot of people will say oh because I don't
know how or I don't know if I can. And I get where you're coming from and I
understand that a lot of people do feel that way that they don't know if they
can or how to actually do that for a number of reasons you know. It's a
difficult exam. It's very different than your usual uni exams and all these
people were really smart and were struggling with it and you're wondering if
you can do it. And I don't blame you you know a lot of people feel that way
but nonetheless, you still have to approach the GAMSAT whenever you
sit at 100% that this is the exam for you. It's the one and only exam that
you're going to do. Give it everything you have for this one exam. Do or die. Make it
happen because then, only then, will you actually give it what's required and you
know what this applies to being a doctor as well because let's look at it this
way. If you had to get a surgery, a life-changing surgery and you went to
your surgeon and your surgeon is sitting across the table from you
and they're going 'You know what, this is gonna be really difficult. It's a, not
many people do this well. It's gonna be difficult surgery.
There's a lot at stake here and I'm not quite confident so I'm just
gonna give it a go the first time and see what happens.
I'm just gonna give it a go and we'll see what happens after your surgery and
then we'll take this seriously the next time. If your surgeon or your doctor
told you that you'd be out of there in a second and you'd get a second, third,
opinion. You wouldn't go back to them so why are you approaching your medical
career in that same way? That surgeon sitting across the table is going to
give you 100%. They're gonna give everything they can to help you so
you've got to do the same with your GAMSAT preparation because there's no other
way it's gonna happen. You can't just give it 60% or 80% and you know some
people do that because they feel like 'Oh if I give it a hundred percent, what if I
fail? What if I don't get in? How is that gonna affect me? I'm gonna feel really
disappointed. And the truth is yes. You probably will. If you give it a hundred
percent and it doesn't work out you may feel
crushed but that's the only way that this is going to happen and in fact
that's the only way anything in life is gonna happen. You have to give it a
hundred percent and sometimes you will be disappointed. You will be
disappointed at times but what you have to do is you have to brush yourself
off, get up and keep going and give it another go. But I can guarantee you that
the people that are getting in on their second, third, fourth, fifth attempt,
it's not because they're giving us 60 percent every time or 80% or even 90%
every time. When they get in they gave it 100%. They gave it everything they had
because they knew that they needed to do that to get a great result and so do you.
What kind of doctor are you going to be? What kind of surgeon do you want to be?
Do you want to be the one that gives 70 percent and never gets that or one that
decides to give 70 percent and then gets you know disbarred or
kicked out of the profession because they're only they're not
performing right you want to be the one who does really well who wants to
succeed and who wants to and who gives it a hundred percent and gets that
result. And if that's you, then contact us and we can have a chat about
your preparation but it's not gonna happen unless you give it
everything you've got for this exam, one time. Focus on this one.
Forget about any other possible attempt. It's all about this one and if you want
to get a feel for the exam, do it at home under exam conditions. You'll save
yourself a whole lot of time, heartache and money and you'll get a lot more
feedback. So I hope that was helpful. if you have any questions, type them in at
the bottom. If you like what I've been talking about, hit the like button share
it with your friends but until next time. Have a great day and all the best with
your preparation.
