This is "Hubby" from GrownUpGeek.com and today i'm gonna show you
how you can turn off or restart your iPhone or iPad
even when the power button is broken.
Now.. I've got four different ways that i'm going to show you how to do this we're
going to go through one by one of course i'm gonna save the best one for last.
Now, these four ways you can do on any iPhone whether or not you
have jailbroken it if you have jailbroken your iphone,
there's more options available to you on on how you can deal with when you have a
uh... broken power button, but we are not going to go over any of those options for jailbroken
phones.
The first way i'm going to show you only does a restart of your phone or iPad,
it does actually shut it down. What you can do.. is reset your network
settings and this forces the iphone to reboot. So if you just need to reboot,
this will work.
To do this.. You tap settings
and tap general
scroll down to "reset" all the way at the bottom..
and then tap "reset network settings" ....
the big drawback to using this method is that you're gonna lose all of your
network related settings and passwords so this may not be the best option
the next method is to just let the battery run dry. That could take a few
hours to a few days depending on if you're using it or not using it
uh... but just let it run dry and then once it's completely dead
plug it in to your regular power source and that will force it to turn on. Again, this
doesn't turn it off this just forces a reboot.
the third option is to just plug the iphone or ipad
into your Mac or your PC running itunes, and choose restore
this will not only you restart the phone but it will also wipe out
everything.. it will make it just like a brand new phone so probably also not a very
good option...
But it works...
The best method is to use "Assistive Touch" Most people don't even know what
that is so i'm gonna show you how to turn it on and then have to use it
First...
tap settings
and then scroll uh... down to "general"
scroll down too
"accessibility"
and all the way down to the bottom
until you see "assisted touch" and tap that,
and, tap it to "on" ..
and as soon as you turn it on, you'll see that little dot show up
down on the lower
right i'm moving around right now
use that when you tap it and it's going to bring up a little list of options
move it to wherever you want by holding it
we see the options
and if you tap "device" ..
you'll see some different volume options and so on...
and if you hit the "lock screen" option
you'll see that locks your phone when it you tap it..
now unlock the phone let me show you this
hit "lock screen" .. and hold just like if you're holding the power button
and hold it long enough and there you have the option to turn the iphone
off
..this works on iphone and ipad
you can leave accessibility option on all the time and now you can turn off
your iphone whenever you want even without a power button
