"Impossible!" I thought, as I peered through the brush,
Buried under the earth, was a forest so lush.
Filled with flora and fauna, and pits large and small,
If not for my 'chute, I'd have died from a fall.
Dodging frogs, I descended… The jungle grew dark,
I found a lit torch, but it soon lost its spark.
Surrounded by darkness, resigned to my fate,
My very last bomb revealed an escape.
I emerged in a market, filled with grumpy old men,
Hawking wares of all kinds in their clandestine den.
One had a wrapped box, and I couldn't resist!
In my hurried excitement, I opened the gift!
Next thing I knew, they were shooting at me!
Make sure to pay first, when you play Spelunky!
I stood high above, a great chasm below,
Cold, clumsy hands clutched the rope I would throw.
Downward I journeyed, past mammoth and yeti,
Giving those in my way a taste of machete.
My feet slid below me, a chill gripped my mind,
Wedged in the ice was a ship of some kind.
Beyond three glowing forcefields sat a horrible sight...
I tossed in a mine and dodged pink rings of light!
"BOOM!" went the beast, in a shower of meat,
Revealing the jetpack I earned for my feat.
I flew to some gold, and then to a jewel,
But before I could grab it, I ran out of fuel!
My blunder was clear, as gravity sunk me,
What goes up must come down, when you play Spelunky!
I found myself alone, in an old dusty mine,
Filled with spiders and bats, all hungry to dine.
With only my wits, and my whip in my grasp,
I ventured yet deeper, dispatching an asp.
When off in the distance, I heard a faint yelp.
A cute little dog, was asking for help.
I scooped him up quickly, in search of the door,
When I saw a stone altar, covered in gore.
He clung to my chest, in a terrified hug,
But despite my misgivings, I placed down the pug.
“POOF!” went the pooch! He was sadly a goner.
In his place was a cape, that I kept in his honor.
With my heartless decision, you might not agree,
Now the choice can be yours, when you play Spelunky!
I heard chanting echoes, off glyph-covered walls,
My blood ran ice cold, in these hot hallowed halls.
Men with faces of hawks jumped around in disguise,
While a vile, old mummy barfed vomit and flies.
I shot him, collecting the ruby he dropped,
Then I dodged a crush trap, and my heart nearly stopped.
There flew Anubis, the god of the dead,
So I stuck sticky bombs to his jackal-shaped head.
Collecting my spoils, I bombed through the floor,
And downward I ventured, till I found a gold door.
Was this it? Was it true, as the legend foretold?
I was sure that beyond lay the City of Gold!
I looked down at the staff, was it some sort of key?
Find out if it’s true, when you play Spelunky!
