In this tutorial we will demonstrate how to
identify the essential part of an ITV classroom.
Each ITV room contains similar pieces of equipment that can be used during an ITV
class.
The equipment may vary slightly but all pieces are present in every room
and perform the same function. These pieces of equipment and their purpose
are detailed below.
There are two wall-mounted cameras present in every ITV room.
One camera is for showing the instructor. the others for showing the class.
These cameras can be selected by using the control panel and have their
positions, zoom, and focus manually adjusted
using the control panel controls.
Audio is transmitted to distance classrooms using the ceiling mounted
microphones.
There are two types one large rectangular microphones to pick up the
students in their seats,
and another smaller microphone to pick up people speaking at the front of the
classroom.
These are sensitive enough that you should not have to shout to be heard.
Speak in a normal classroom voice.
Each room has a desktop computer located at the teacher station in the front of
the room.
You can show students the video and audio from a computer by selecting it on
the control panel.
Using the computer you can display PowerPoint shows, navigate websites,
and play DVDs.
The ITV room may have cables they can connect
to your personal laptop computer. This allows you to show files
on your personal laptop to your students.
At the front to each ITV room, there is a screen that shows what you
currently have selected to display,
depending on the control panel setting. The screen could be one or more large
screen TVs or a ceiling mounted projector.
What is being displayed on the screen is what your students at remote classrooms
are seeing.
There is a television at the back each ITV classroom, or an additional monitor
on a teacher station,
that shows video of the remote classroom that is speaking or spoke last.
This display will change to show a different classroom with students
in that different classroom start speaking.
Each classroom has a document camera that can be displayed to students using
the control panel.
You can write on it using markers, or use it to displayed transparencies or
document you have prepared.
The document camera, or Elmo, can zoom in or out
to show objects.
The control panel is used to select which video source is being displayed to
students,
and allows the classrooms microphones to be muted or unmuted.
In some rooms a DVD/VCR player is available to play recordings on DVD
or VHS tape. These are not common, as DVDs can be played using the desktop
computer at the instructor station.
Located in each ITV room is a binder containing the phone numbers at each
ITV room,
the contact information for remote campuses, and solutions to common ITV
problems.
Located in each ITV room is a campus phone that can be used to contact
other ITV rooms.
In this tutorial, we demonstrated how to
identify the essential parts of an ITV classroom.
