Hi. I'm Melina and welcome to Expert Village. Today we're going to learn how to make a paper
star lantern. In this next step, we're going to add the fold lines that we're going to
use to join our star points together. So what you're going to do is, you're going to start
at the point of your star and you're going to come out at an angle. You're going to come
out about a half an inch. You're not going to come out straight across. You're going
to come out a little bit slanted. Just like this. You're then going to take your ruler
and you're going to measure down to this other point, but you're going to come about a half
an inch. Before you reach it, you're going to stop and you're going to be about, probably
a fourth of an inch, a fourth of an inch, a little bit over a fourth of an inch from
your start edge. You're just going to take your pencil, go like this and stop about half
an inch away. When you get half an inch away, you're going to take your ruler and you're
going to measure down to this point. This is the flap that we're going to use to stick
one star to another. The next thing, we're going to take our ruler and we're going to
measure. We're going to do the same thing that we did up here and you're going to start
from this point. You're going to go out about a half an inch, and these are just the flaps
that we're going to use to stick our stars together, so if they're not exactly the same
on both sides, it's not really a big deal. This is all going to be hidden. So, once you
come out, you?re going to start at the end of the line. You're going to draw into the
center fold and you're going to do the same thing on both sides until you come in, until
they reach together in the middle and then you're going to draw another line. We're going
to repeat this pattern five different times. Normally if you were doing something like
this, you could make a copy in the copy machine, but since you're using parchment paper, you're
not going to be able to do it in a copy machine. So we're just going to trace the drawing that
we have underneath and if you've pressed down hard enough, it should be able to come through.
You should be able to see where your drawing is. And another way to do this is if you have
tracing paper. That could be very helpful. You would just draw your original drawing,
you would press into it with tracing paper underneath and it would copy onto the tracing
paper and then you could use that tracing paper to copy onto each paper.
