Megumi is a professional Mixed Martial Arts Fighter. MMA is not like professional wrestling,
this is real. Real punches, real blood. The rules are easy, because there are almost
none, exceptions are no biting, scratching, pulling hair, and no cheap shots to the groin
for men. You win by knocking your opponent out with punches, kicks, knees, etc... Then...there's
grappling...where you take the opponent to ground and force them into submission with
moves, such as 'Ankle Locks', 'Choke Sleepers' and 'Arm Bars'.
Mixed Martial Arts is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. In the U.S. MMA Pay Per
View regularly outsells NBA and NFL events.
Finally, the main event is at hand. Japan's Megumi Fujii faces off against America's Cindy
Hales.
I remember in my first MMA match I was so nervous, I couldn't hear anything around me
when I stepped into the ring. Actually, I can't remember much at all. I
do remember closing my eyes repeatedly during the first few exchanges though. But then I
took her down pretty quickly and put my opponent in a choke sleeper submission hold...she tapped
out in the first round.
Megumi comes out focused for the second round. After a few hard kicks, she takes her opponent
down again. Megumi secures the win with an Arm bar submission hold. She has now won 14
matches and still lost none.
Mixed Martial Arts still suffers from the bad image of its early days, where heavily
tattooed bouncer types fought bare knuckled bar room brawls to a bloodthirsty crowd.
Since then, MMA has evolved into a highly technical sport.
